Water pump or Power steering?

Hi got 2001 ML55 that have a whining noice and i cant figure out it is a Power steering or Water pump It whines more when i turn but it whines while accelerating. How do i figure out what part is bad?
and if its a water pump what brand is good? i was looking at Hepu but its hard to find one with 3 outlets that include oil cooler. who knows the Item # for Hepu with 3 outlets. The OEM one that on the car part# is A112 201 05 01 Thanks

Start the car, open the hood and while your girlfriend is turning the wheel do you hear a squeal---yes or no----------then for the water pump, carefully and I mean carefully put one end of a coat hanger on the pump and the other in your ear---now have sweety accelerate------what do you hear?

FYI 112 201 05 01 is not in the MB EPC therefore it is not the water pump number--------for the correct part post your VIN!

I think i figure it out that its the steering pump. Started the car in park, put my foot on a accelerator to pick up prms a little noise wasn't bad but when i started to turn the steering wheel left to right then i heard the whining so i guess its the Steering Pump.but when it just idling and i turn steering dont hear much, only at higher rpm can be heard. Just don't understand why the SP would go bad at 60k miles?
what SP brand is good and where should i get it? usually i shop on ebay, just wonder what brand is good i don't want to buy junk Thanks

It must be an old number that has been replaced by another.

Igor, everyone replaces the pump when there is noise, but the problem is always with the reservoir. The reservoir has a special screen inside that eliminates noise. If it is fractured you will get that whining sound.

The res. is about $25 and simple to replace. Just follow the instructions in the PDF. The parts must be bought from a dealer or else they will not match up.

What happen was i replaced the radiator and a o ring on the reservoir and did not bleed the system, didnt know that it needs to be done. So i bled the system and i used this steering fluid that is on the picture, is it ok to use that? because i noticed that it say that tranny oil should go in there. let me know if its ok to use this steering fluid? thanks. seems that no more whining can be heard.
Thank you for all this Info its amazing how knowledgeable you are!!!!
