Q: w163 5sp shifting mechanism removal
Hi all,
is it possible to remove manual shifting mechanism by removing central console without crawling under the car? I need to swap the mechanism only not the tie bars. Does anyone have any diagrams of a similar transmission (with mechanism linkage drawings)?
Vehicle in question is a w163 230 5speed manual.
Many thanks.

@MD,
Thank You, that looks very similar to what I can see. How are the clips (manual #1, 2nd pic) removed, replaced? Any special tool required or is it safe to just pull at the folded end?
greatly appreciate the help.

I think step #5 relates to the reverse sensor switch parking brake control cable, however the clips are the issue of the step #2 in the manual. Now it makes sense that in any case removal of those clips is necessary since they secure the rods to the levers of the mechanism. Anyways... before I start removing the center console of the donor car, which does not belong to me and I expect to have only limited time to work with the vehicle, I am trying to make myself familiar with the removal as much as possible, including finding out how those clips are removed and inserted. At the time of installation into my own vehicle I will have more time.
