Ml320 (W163) 2001 Bad gas supply at start off
Hi everybody,
Does a ML320 W163 of 2001 have an electronic or mechanical gas carburation?
I explain myself...
Especially when the car has a cold engin and I take off I give a certain amount of pressure on the gas pedal. At once it spurts off as like gas didn't come all the way yet and that at once all gas demanded comes through (I hope that was clear enough...).
After a few kms all works ok.
I was wondering if it could be some dirt in carburator or pump or injectors, or maybe not all spark plugs working when it's cold...?
Can anybody enlighten me or ask me more info if I wasn't that clear, please.
Thank you,
Cheers, Den

Thank you Maj.!
Btw, the fact that when this happens, is it normal that it. 'stays longer' in gears, like before it switches to the next gear?

Though this happens only when the gas is not supplied correctly. So I have a feeling it has to do with this, because otherwise it runs and switches gears smoothly.
I'm gonna try the fuel filter first I guess and hope and see if it changes something.

Hey hey,
So I've changed the fuel filter and spark plugs.
Now what basically happens is that not all cylinders work at cold start (cylinder 2,3 and 4). After driving a bit, few kms, when I turn on and off the car, all works perfectly...
Anybody have an idea what that could be? No other defaults of broken sensors or whatever pop up...
Thanks for your precious help,
Den

Yes, on cold start, I think all W163s change gears a bit slower (stay longer in gears) compared to a warm engine. I can almost recollect experiencing this all the 20 years, I have owned my ML320, from the day it was new.

Would you happen to have the PDF's for my 2005 ML500? I bought the pliers shown in the PDF you posted but after I took off the wheel well covers, I noticed right away that the connectors look completely different than what's shown in the PDF. I can't figure out how to disconnect them. My VIN# is 4JGAB75E85A537756.
