Mercedes Ml430 2000 Stuck in Park
Mercedes Ml430 2000 Stuck in Park
my ml430 2000 had transmission leak and my car went into LIMP mode - stuck in park. I replaced the transmission gasket...and filled with transmission fluid.
I have been using the emergency release to get it into drive....and then the car runs fine...shifting through all gears.
I was unable to check the fluid level of the transmission fluid because there was no dip stick with the vehicle. If the fluid is too high or too low will this keep it in LIMP mode? Also with the leak could it have soiled any sensors around the transmission pan?

You need to learn to read thru your owner's manual. And if you dont have one, obtain one.
You need to buy a dipstick for your ML.
Do a search on the forum on the dipstick required for checking the tranny.

Also, you haven't mentioned anything about your codes or scanning. It was in limp mode (I presume you had it scanned?)
Did you scan and erase the codes after your fixes?

thank you for your response.
Wouldn't it be reasonable to assume that there was a direct correlation between the transmission fluid leak, and immediately going into LIMP mode....and after putting fluid back in that should fix it?
I did have codes ran.....came up o2/sensor and mass air flow sensor.

You need a scanner type of reader, not a simple code reader, to find the code/s in the Trans. Control Module.
And you didn't answer the questions about deleting the codes or about the dipstick.

Are you also going to assume the oil hasnt wicked up the wiring? Have you cleaned up correctly with electrical contact cleaner.
WRT scanning, I have no idea what kind of scanner you are using.
You have to scan for transmission codes and erase them. They dont magically disappear after your fix.
If it's (your scanner) the garden variety type, it will not be able to read those codes.
codes
Last month, mechanic recently gave this diagnostics for a fee of 250$...….He gave me a quote of 5,000$ to fix it. I just want to get it to be able get it out of "Park".....is there something that I can try first?
I've ordered a dip stick.
Diagnose transmission not coming out of park Checked for codes in
ESM P1910 The supply voltage of control unit is too high- over voltage
P1856 Supply voltage to ecu is too low
P1832 Output stage in ESM control unit has short circuit
P1875 CAN communication is faulty
P1912 The voltage value of the touch push buttons is implausible
Transmission in limp mode
116 Component Y3/6b1 Transmission oil temperature sensor or component Y3/6s1 Starter lockout contact is faulty or both
130 CAN communication with control unit N15/5 Electronic selector lever module control unit is sporadically disturbed
135 CAN communication with engine system is sporadically disturbed
148 The torque converter lock up clutch causes a sporadic impermissible closing
Center console must be removed to check connections to esm

Please read the highlighted sections (intermittent) of the first PDF, then read the highlighted section of the second PDF.
You paid $250, a robbery in itself, to have the codes read, but a scanner that will read codes in every module will cost you much less. This scanner will read codes not only for M/B, but any other vehicle manufacturer.

Also, check to see if your brake lights work. It could be as simple as a brake light switch under the dash. This will be my first check. It just happened yesterday and I haven't had time to do anything yet. ( except to come here and see if others had the same problem)
Please let me know what the cause of your problem was.

UPDATE:
Yesterday we had mild weather. I hopped into the truck, started it up, and it came out of park without hitting the release. ?????????
Something must have been frozen. We had freezing rain and then snow when this first happened, but now, everything looks ok.
Something must have frozen up.
I never did get a chance to see if the brake lights came on. It might have just been a frozen brake light switch. fingers crossed.
