Unhappy loud @$$ squeeking and groaning

the front end of our ML squeeks and groans like a ****...it's so loud that people walking on the sidewalks stare at the car like it's going to fall apart

Dealer told us a while ago that the front ball joints and tie rod were wearing out @ 50k...could this be the culprit or most likely something else?

Thanks

Are you sure it is not the brakes, they have been know to squeek very load when dust or dirt gets on them? Does it do it going straight or when your turning?& is the steering loose when you are driving at different speeds? Autogunner.

straight or turning, same thing. Usually, it's going over bumps and stuff over the road...basically when ever the front end is not flat on the ground, it'll squeek and groan. Most noticible is when going slow over uneven surfaces (like bad roads where there are raises and dips).

I can get out and rock the car back and forth using the roofbar and it'll do the same noise.

thanks for the help man.

Wouldn't have thought it was the steering, as you say it makes the noise if you rock the car. Sounds like the suspension, perhaps the bushes or the shocks?

I just called the independent dealer...they think it's the sway bar bushings, which they see a lot on the ML's. I got an appointment for the 16th so we'll know then. I'll post an update

anyone has had sway bar bushings done before and possibly know a cost?

I had the rear shocks replaced awhile back, due to similar noise.

It was under warranty at the time........!

Service rep recognized it right away.

YO,

Check the Sway Bar bushings. If the rubber bushings stick to either the sway bar or the bushing bracket then every time you go over a bump in the road that you will hear this loud squeaking noise.
