average cost of extra key?

i found some prices...mostly around $200 for a new key....in the process of buying a 1999 ML320 and well im only going to get one key......so the father of the seller supposedly can get it for $98. i called up a local dealership to get a quote....they said approx $180 [programmed] $150 [w/out programming]

so i am just trying to get a better estimate...and well that is where the forum comes into play....i tried searching "key fob" and thats where i got the $200-sih prices range....does that seem about right?

If you do a search you will see alot of people saying that the keys are $125. However, I just called a bunch of dealers and they wanted $200 not programmed! Also with these new keys you cannot program them your self as you will need a SA to use the AAM machine to synchronize the key fob. BTW, the SA wants another $50 to program the key for 5mins of their time!

anywhere between $200 - $250, depending on dealer for a new key programmed I believe.

around boston, herb chambers quoted me about $180 programmed....$150 just for the key....then approx. $30 for the programming....

crap. so far away! ahahaha
just wondering tho...i would assume you would have to bring the car to the place as well, correct?

[inside im hoping they can just make keys using only the key..but i kno its a false hope...just thought id post it...but the reason being that im going to be going to the west coast in a week or so....and if.....by any chance IF it can be done with just the key....id drive from CA to AZ like no other...well...maybe fly...but still. ]

Noredline,

How did you pull this off w/ Schumacher? I live in the area and when I asked them they told me that it would cost $160 to get a replacement key for my '03 ML 500.

I think I spoke to Paul of the blue team. Who did you talk to? Could I mention your deal if it would help? If I can get a key at $50 that'd be awesome. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...
