Interesting 2006 Model Year Discussion with MB
Good Afternoon All...
I went to the local Mercedes Benz dealership yesterday and spoke with a sales manager. He knows how disgusted I am with the quality (or lackthereof) with my ML500. He told me that I would be "very pleased" with the new M Class and said he hoped MB could earn my business again. He went on the tell me that MB will be unveiling 6 SUV's for the 2006 model year. Is it me, or does this sound like a ridiculous number of SUV's for any manufacturer to have in its stable? Has anyone else heard of this? To the guy's credit, he said he would never even attempt to defend the existing ML, as he stated he sees them in the service department more than any other model of MB with ongoing problems. Time will tell if the new M Class is worth our money.

p.s. He said the newly re-designed SLK will be a "few thousand" more than the existing encarnation of the SLK.

I won't be writing any checks yet for the new ML. MB has made a lot of improvements (they also said that about MY02 MLs). To MB's credit, however, most of the new surveys on MY03, 04 and 05MLs are quite good. Here's how I see this: MB has done an awful lot to improve quality. Whatever they have done has been tested in MY04 and made better on MY05s. These same "tricks" will be implemented in MY06 MLs but who knows what other "new" issues will show up? As for the number of SUVs, your salesman is adding the GST and all new 06 non car Mbs in the mix.

This means that folks who want 7 instead of 5 seats in their new M-Class will have to order a G-Class in the future. Or opt for the R-Class with 6 seats.

Right, the new car and driver has a pic. Does not look radically different than the current ML. Somewhat smoother lines but I'm not sure whats been done to the quality.
