Tiptronic shifter won't manually shift up or down.

Hi, My ML320 runs and shifts fine when the shifter is in D mode. The shifter lever itself though is against the left (drivers) side of the gate. So obviously I can't downshift - and when I move the lever to the right + it does nothing at all. So I believe there's a mechanical as well as a module problem. I'm not familiar with this shifter and would greatly appreciate some help as to what is wrong. I'm assuming the shift lever is supposed to be in the middle of the gate when at rest not the left side.

Take photos of the shifter while it is in the park PARK position and when put into DRIVE pos.

Can you move the shifter to the right?

Do you have a simple code reader or do you have a scanner?

I described the problem backwards. The lever is held over to the right not the left. I can pull it to the left but nothing happens. I have an iCarsoft MBll. If I run OBDll generic diagnostic there's no DTCs. If I run diagnostics for MB I get a P1912.

I have an iCarsoft MBll. Generic OBDll scan....No DTCs. MB scan P1912.
Thanks for the response. I think I may have tried to upload too large of pics and it's awaiting approval by a Mod.

According to Star code P1912 calls for replacement of the shifter.

Ok thanks for the help. Does the new shifter have to be programmed? Or is it just straight R&R?

It's straight R&I, but when you install it, you must check for codes in the replaced shifter.

Thanks for the help. I've installed another shifter and cleared the codes. So far all good. Next on the list is a right rear abs/speed sensor.
