ML500 - 2005 - Vent Valve Vapor Canister - Replacement

Mercedes Part No: 163 476 0232 Vent Valve Vapor Canister - is no longer available. What replacement part will substitute for the original. Any electrical connection issues?

Mercedes -Benz of Wilsonville was unable to resolve the issue. MB Service Center performed a smoke test on the evap system to locate the problem at a cost of $275.00. The Invoice states: Rear shut off valve no longer available for replacing. The tech identified the part as a shut off valve for purge system. No part number was provided. When I called back to speak with the Service Advisor and asked about the part number he provided me with an error code and not a part number. The Service Advisor stated that when and if you figure out how to fix the problem, please call us back, because after we returned your car, we discussed what do we do when this part goes bad?

I researched online for similar problems and was able to determine that the part was located under the car, by the exhaust pipe hanger. I removed the part and the part number is on the device. The part is no longer available through MB and most auto part shops list it as No Longer Available. I was able to find a replacement canister through an independent supply shop. I am waiting for the part to arrive, to install and check operation.

This is a device that triggers a CEL on the emission control system. The car is due for registration renewal and requires a smog check. The car can not pass the test with a CEL on and the OBDC system needs to clear the code before the car will pass the test.

One would think that the MB team would have come up with a cross reference for a replacement part.

Thanks, this was useful for identification of the part, but I did not find a reference to a part that can be used in lieu of the original part that is no longer available.
