Snow tires will not help when the snow/ice/water combination causes the surface to become greasey like the road in the video. Not even studded tires will stop you. I've had 'em. The OEM tires on the MLs are fine for most conditions here in New England. I get a kick oout of the idiot moves of some of the "drivers" in the video! Particularly liked the "bail out" and "sleigh ride" numbers. Damn, take their licenses away!!

Bash - bash - bash

Yeah - snow tires don't help, although it appeared as though the ML did OK all things considered. Some of them got messed up.

Never would have thought to BAIL-OUT!! MORON!!! She is so lucky the next guy wasn't right behind her.

I had a very similar thing happen to me in a Jeep Cheroke. Although the Jeep was a serious POS and I hated it, it made out very well in one of those serial bash-ups. I made a mess out of a Ford escort stopped at a 'T' intersection. First I slid and tapped him, no damage at all, I backed away and got out to look. While we're checking it out, along comes an LTD wagon out of control. He clobbered the Jeep and in turn, the Jeep then went half way through the escort, pushing it out into traffic where what was left of it got t-boned. We were all off to the side watching it happen and there was NOTHING we could do. Best yet - I WAS ON MY WAY TO TRADE THE JEEP IN FOR AN ML. What a mess that was. The LTD went through the rear hatch, which is fiberglass on a Jeep!

Hey Benzboy...how did your ML do in this big bad blizzard of 2005??

I have Michellin(sp?) Cross Terrains on mine. I love this ML in the snow. It eats it up.

The "bail out" was too damn funny. Thats my first reaction when I'm sliding on ice.....JUMP!!!

Pretty funny. I think all those people must have relatives in Vancouver , Canada, since it was the identical situation there 2 weeks ago. Same moves, a guy bailed out on the street before he plowed into others, a passenger with the door open trying to brake the car with her feet. We had one guy get up and walk between 2 cars after impact, not even thinking about cars coming from behind!

Nah, our ML doesn't have snow tires. It gets around just fine, no problems at all. Running the Dunlop GrandTrek's. Pretty good tires IMO

Pretty slippery, it did not appear the antilock was even working on the ML.

And Im rockin Blizzacks cause an ML 55 isnt worth junk on the stock dunlops when you add a .5" of snow to the mix...

I grew up in western, ny Buffalo area. Normally get 200+ inches of snow a year. And that is the stupidest thing I've ever seen in my life. I can't believe that woman bailed out of her car...!! Although the guy who was hanging out the passenger side looked like he was trying to slow the car down... I give him an A for effort. The best thing to do if you know you're on ice and heading towards something you don't want to is simply gas it and try to angle to either side. As soon as you brake and notice a loss of controll just give it some gas and steer out of the way. Saved my butt many, many, many times. Unfortunately sometimes you have to choose between a gaurdrail and another car...

How much of an effect do chains have? Are they easy to put on?

Yeah same tires here. I've driven through some heavy snow in upstate NY, and through the hilly areas near home in about 8" of snow. The ML is a beast.

I do get the ESP lights to go off, but the ML is generally under control and going straight. As long as you drive carefully, you should be safe for the most part. I avoid changing lanes as much as possible in bad weather though.
