Can I purchase roof rail and chrome grill?
The title says it all, I just bought an European ML320 and it came with black front grill and without the roof rails.
Can someone give me part numbers and place to purchase if they are available for sale.
Thanks

It's Cheaper if you order the chrome grill as an accesory.
Silver/Chrome Grill B6 688 0354 199 Euros
It's the same that has the code U89
No idea about roof rails.
This is for ML W164. (350 500 270CDI 320CDI)
Best Regards.

No roof rail, then - sorry
Hi,
OK - so it's a diesel 320. Which means that you'll unfortunately not be able to retrofit the roof rails. No way, according to MB engineers. Sorry about that - you should have been more careful ordering.
The grille of course is another matter, indeed retrofittable.
Enjoy your new W164.122
Cheers,

Thanks for your help. Can you confirm this is for W164?

Actually, it is possible to retrofit the roof rails to any W164. Under the molding are black rubber plugs in the holes where the rails bolt in.
Besides the rails, you are going to need the correct moldings to go under them, and the nuts to hold them on. By the way, you have to remove (or lower) the headliner for access to them.
I can't imagine why anyone would say it's not possible. I've been to the factory, and every W164 has the holes required for this.

Hi,
If your handle is anything to go by, you should know.
What you write seems logical, but several German MB sources (also in writing, see here where on page 17-18 you may read: Wem der Kofferraum für Gepäck oder Sportgeräte nicht ausreicht, kann bei der neuen M-Klasse auch viel auf dem Dach transportieren. Vorausgesetzt, beim Kauf wurde die Dachreling (Code 720) mitbestellt. Denn: Eine Nachrüstung der neuen M-Klasse mit einer Dachreling ist nicht möglich! - in English: If the trunk is too small for your luggage or sports gear, the new M-Class offers lots of transportation potential on the roof. On condition that the roof rails (code 720) were ordered from the factory. Retrofitting the roof rails to a new M-Class is not possible!
But of course, MBUSI may have modified production procedures so that this may now be possible - it would be a lot more practical, also in a sales situation where the only thing keeping the customer from buying a car off the lot is the lack of the roof rails (or the other way round).
Cheers,
Birger

I guess that "it is not possible" can have several different meanings. For instance they also will say that it is not possible to retrofit sat radio in some vehicles, yet it is entirely possible, just more work to install all of the parts.
It would be easy to find out for sure - someone just needs to remove the roof drip rails from a vehicle that does not have the rails and see if the holes are there filled with rubber plugs. There would be five in total, two in the front area, two in the rear and one in about the middle. The problem with verifying this is that it would be very hard to find one of these without rails in the US. Maybe a service wagon, but either way they won't be too plentiful here. Maybe someone in Europe could check?
