ML's built in the USA?

I would like to thank MB for supporting US jobs. They could have left like the others are doing but they they decided to build a better/stonger tuck. Then decided to build two more beside it.

The plants are huge. I know because I have to walk them everyday. I work in plant 2 where we build the 164 and the new 251. Now I have only been there for about 4 months now but the place is really big. And everyone is right it is located in Vance Alabama and that is in Tuscaloosa county.

yes they are made in Alabama . Not much to laugh at considering we have set many automotive standards here . We also hold the best in MB plant quality here. Lenny congrats on you employment, just a couple more months and you'll be out of that "blue" shirt. What line do you work?

BMW x5 and z4 are also made in America. People dont seem to complain about their heritage not being german. And most toyotas are also made in america. Where does the legendary reliability come from? Is it the design or the assembly? As long as theyre designed and engineered by germans, theyre still 'german' to me. MB just plucked off some hillbillies and gave them a factory to make some trucks right?

You missed the sarcasm entirely.

Also you could tell us why MB has invested more money in Alabama than anyother plant. You should also check and see what us "hillbillies" & our "factory to make some trucks" have done for the MB car group.

BEcause I have the choice...I would rather have a red-blooded, American taxpaying "hillbilly" build my next Benz than a socialist elitist whoose ancestors executed my grandfather during WWII.

Cars being built where and by whom......
Hi there,
What if we left all these personality issues aside???
With increasing globalisation, it becomes very dificult to track where a car is made, and also by whom.
Buy a "pure bred" (German) MB or BMW, and it might very well have been built by a number of Muslim Turks - in Western Germany maybe, but the car may not have had ONE "real" German lay hands on it during its build process.
The "highlights" of other presumably German brands like VW, Porsche, and Audi are to a great extent manufactured/assembled in plants located either in the former East Germany or in one of the former East Bloc countries. Even Bentleys have their bodies manufactured in Eastern Europe these days.
And if I'm not all wrong, the SLK clone Chrysler Crossfire is built in Germany..
I think what counts is that the workforce is motivated to do a good job - and this may be more the case in Vance, AL, than in "traditional" car construction areas.
Cheers,
Birger
