Just as stated in the title, I'm looking for visual responses.

Anyone installed the Brabus custom suspension?

In addition to this question, can the springs be purchased without the shocks or do they come as a set? I know some people (different car) purchased only the lowering springs and kept the stock shocks. Is this possible with the Brabus setup?

Yes, the Brabus sport springs can be purchase without the 4 sport dampers.

Is the 2" drop achievable without the dampers? Also, if only the springs are replaced, will it put too much strain on the stock shocks and would have to be replaced early anyway? Plus, I wonder what kind of ride one will get with just the springs replaced. Hopefuly, you can ask them these questions. Thanks.

Doing the springs only will undoubtedly be a compromise. Lowered suspensions benefit from dampers that are tuned to them. Yes, the stock shocks will wear out sooner that they would with the stock springs, and they will probably not control body and suspension motion nearly as well. Do it right if you do it.

Richard, I noticed in some of the threads, you verified you don't have airmatic. Neither do I and I had concerns that my ML350 had higher ground clearance than some I compared with. I was wondering if you can tell me what clearance your ML has. I measured with a tape measure from top of the tire to the roof of the wheel well and here's what I found: 7" rear and 6" front. I'm wondering if it's comparable to yours. Hope you can help me shed some light to this.

Flipsonic,

Great info!!! I will check first thing tommor. AM, I'm shacking at the girlfriend's house tonite

However, I no longer have the 18" oem wheels...they are now replaced with 22" Brabus mono 6s and 265/35/22 on all four corners. I may change the rears to 295/30/22, but will decide after the Brabus springs.

Nice ride dude! I have 295/40 all the way around on mine but with 20" wheels. The wheel diameter and clearance should be comparable to yours so let me know what it is. By the way, how do you like the bumps and braking with the new shoes?

Thanks!

I got the same measurements; fronts - 6" and rears - 7". I was at Brabus NA today and their showroom ML500 (still in the works) has the same gap measurements on 20" wheels. They are waiting for the compression machine to arrive this week so thus far they are not able to lower my ML nor their showroom W164 (hopefully by wed.).

I did see a preview picture of the On-Road kit (expect 8-10 weeks delivery) and I must admit it looks stunning Not so sure about the Off-Road kit now, I wasn't too impressed with the way it looked on their showroom ML, however they painted the skidplate black w/ the 4 chrome styling elements looks quite different from their website photo.

Thus far the bumps, dips and potholes are quite tolerable...I actually expected worst since this is the first 22" shoes I've owned, I really don't feel much difference from my 18" ML Lorinsers. The extra TQ on the 500 is very noticable from my ML430...

How about braking? Is there any difference?

Flipsonic,

I apologize for the delay on the snap shots, during the past few days the unexpected Chatsworth/West Hills fires had us in the Porter Ranch area very worried that it may move towards our direction.

I did have the Brabus springs installed last Monday, clock some miles on the vehicle and hope the springs settle...currently the gap in the front is now 4.25" (prior to lowering - 6") and the rear gap is now 4.75" (prior to lowering - 7")

I will try to get you some pictures ASAP.

Also, during the spring install we test fitted the W163 ML430 F&R Brembo Gran Turismo BBKs...unfortunately the brackets did not fit, a Brembo tech was at hand during the test fit he stated it would cost $1600 for a custom bracket alone I told him, I'll pass and just wait for the proper kit when it's released...8 piston 15" caliper in the front; 4 piston 13.6" in the rears!

Watup Enri,

I always admire the way you mod your rides!!! Tastefully done Yes, Jason at F1 did the spring install, Brabus NA did not have the spring tensioner therefore could not do the install. Well, you know Jason he'll slam anything that he gets his hands on...he was working on an SLR just the other day.

I'll probably swing by F1 sometime next week and have Jason drop the ML another inch or so...hope to see you there!
