Static on the HK sound system
i just started my ML350 after not driving it for a couple of days. well i noticed this morning that my HK sound system had tons of static in it while i was listening to the radio, so i changed stations and same thing. so i decided to change to the cd changer and listen to see if the static was still there. and yes it was, than i played with the fader, the different sound settings that come with the HK, and the damn static was still there. i only have 600 miles so i plan on complaining about the static when i go back for my 1000 mile checkup. pretty disappointed that this is happening. i thought i saw a post before about the sound system, but i couldn't find it.
any ideas? loose ground somewhere? blown speakers?

This is an old thread, but I recently re-experienced the problem too. The dealer replaced the COMAND center 6 months ago, but just yesterday this problem came back for me. Has anyone else experienced this static? When it happens nothing comes in clear, not CD or Radio. Turning the car off and restarting takes care of it, but seems like an odd fix. Is possible that I received two bad COMAND units?

I had the same problem in my ML350. I found if I turned off the stereo and then rotated the volume control back an forth i.e. 360 degree turns. This fixed the problem. I normally use the volume controls on the steering wheel. Since I've done the rotate thing I've not seen the problem. My guess is a dirty variable resistor.

I have a similar static problem on occasion. It goes away by itself, but the static is very loud and I am unable to hear the music/radio when it occurs. The dealer said the amplifier needs to be replaced. I have yet to take it in, but this appears to be a well known issue.

Sorry, what is STATIC? What does this mean? So I can understand if it happens to me too!
