ML63 vs ALPINA B6 Cab.

So here the specs for ML63 and Alpina cab... both 500 hp alpina has more torque but the truck which is heavy is just as fast.

ML63 is 0.1 slower to 60 and 0.2 seconds slower to 0-1000m, thats defenetly one fast truck!

What i dont understan is how come the lighter BMW is not much faster than a heavier ML63?

Mercedes all the way!
bobcanada: dude, the Alpina B6 is NOT a truck.

when they said "cab", they mean "cabriolet" i.e. coupe - they didn't mean cabin. basically it's a retuned version of the BMW 6. pic is here: http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/att...achmentid=6521

so yes, i'm not surprised a two-door sports car with a huge engine is faster than the big ML - in fact the surprise is that the ML is ALMOST as fast as it!

Am I the only one that sees this.

If new tank weight ML63 = 4.7 0-60.....AND current E55 stock is 4.5 0-60....then logically the near 1000lb lighter E63 0-60 =( ).......it's just gotta be faster than what we have now...well stock ones that is. And torque is pretty much what gets you 0-60.....what gives?

ALPINA has always been extremly conservative regarding official performance claims.

Correct 0-125 mph on the B6 is in the 14 sec range vs the official 17 sec on the ML ( could be faster in really live offcourse)
But the ML is one fast SUV.
Basically the B5-B6 is equally fast as the M5 give or take a few.

This doesn't make sense, the B6 is lighter, has more torque and as much HP. Alpina, like Erik said, is very conservative and I wouldn't be surprised to see a real gap between the "real world" numbers and the one you gave.

the nature of the powerbands and natural variance between tests can be attributed to the similarity in times. no doubt though, both are very fast automobiles. alpina is very conservative as well. but i think the ml63 shines on the top end due to its high revving powerband and 7 speed transmission keeping it within the torque range. on the top end, where torque matters less, high revs and sustained hp and close gearing will make a huge difference. my guess is that the alpina has rather tall gearing in higher gears, because of alpina's "sporting gentleman" philosophy and their choice to adapt a supercharged motor. the 63 has a definite advantage in gearing.

THis is as much apples to orange as possible.

I would guess the B6 is in the same performance class as the SL55.
Several german test done with the B5 vs the E55 indicates a tiny tiny advantage in favour of the B5 ( same engine as in the B6).
It would probably please you to hear than the E55 was a bit faster around the track, but the ALPINA was faster in straight line.
Kind of a change in roles dont you think

So unless we belive the new ML63 is as fast as the SL55, the difference in real world between the B6 and the ML is more than the papers indicate.
