Cost of Adding Phone to 2006 ML350 over $3K
Last week I began toying with the idea integrating my Iphone with my 2006 ML350. When I bought the truck there was no factory installed phone or hands free option.
So begins the craziness. I knew for sure that I'd need the module $500. I then inquired about getting the truck phone integrated. I was told $1140 for the parts and about $200 labor. So I'm thinking, wow, $1900 to use my phone hands free but then decided OK. Brought in the truck last Tuesday and was called Tuesday afternoon and was told in addition to the $1140 for the wiring harness, I needed another $800 for the "tie down" kit or something. Confirmed this with other dealers that I indeed needed both and now I'm up to $2600. This part had to be special ordered so I took the truck back to the dealer today Tuesday for my $2600 phone install. This afternoon I get a call and I'm told that the mirror on my truck doesn't have the microphone built in? $900 for this taking it up to $3540 for a phone. At this point I said FORGET IT! I also inquired as to where the microphone is that the Teleaid system uses since you can speak to an operator and I'm told it's separate from the phone.
Does all this sound normal? Is it really $3500 to add phone service not even including a phone?
