Of course you didn't need to add transmission fluid.

And, if you did, it would be a warranty fix.

The "load" is the OP in this instance.

I was wondering why you needed to add some. The Mercedes tranny is actually designed to be that way so the owner wouldnt have to do anything to it.

You can buy the special tool that allows filling transmission via the drain plug hole.

You drive a 60K+ suv having a MB dealer work on your car wont hurt the bank that much. Its a good thing to go through Mercedes dealers for service on everything to keep the service records A+. Could keep going but no point.

One can be jury rigged from a small hand pump for 1 qt bottles (available at NAPA), some tygon tubing and a fitting with the same threads as the drain plug.

The only problem you'll run into is the need for the Star Diagnosis System to measure the temperature when setting the level; and the level is extremely temperature sensitive.

You also need to use only MB ATF (available only at a MBUSA dealer) and to exercise ultra cleanliness.

That's correct--you want it flatbedded, not towed.

I wouldn't. That transmission is extremely sensitive to fluid level.

You might be OK, but you might burn up some very expensive parts.

do you think that cooling might be the issue, because the lubrication seems to be fine, it shifts into D and R perfectly

I don't agree here. I just had Service D (40K mile) done today. $896 to change some fluids and replace a couple filters. $900 for routine service?! Although I would be nervous to go anywhere but the dealer to have it done, that is ridiculous for what it is!
