stereo in ml350

hi,
i am going to post this question here because i could not get a response in the audio forum.

i just got my 2010 ml350 about a month ago. i did not get the upgraded HK system. the sound quality really is acceptable for me although i do enjoy my music and l like it loud at times when i'm by myself. i cannot find any info on the speakers that are in the car now or what kind they are. i feel like i might need to add a subwoofer to take the bass before i possibly blow my speakers.

i would really appreciate some input on this from members here before trusting this to a stereo salesman who may try and sell me more than what i need or go ripping out what i have already.

I am not interested in forcing people around me to hear what i'm listening to outside of my car. i do not listen to bass thumping rap. i just enjoy good sound. I generally listen to classic rock, todays new country, some classical.

thanks.

I have tried the ML '06 standard speakers and at full volume you could hear the music from outside the car (with the glass up and door closed ofc), now I don't know if they are the same speakers or not but if they are not sufficient in volume I would say go to the dealership and let them check it.

Unless you are saying that at high volume the music is not as clear (quality wise) then that's a different story. Unfortunately I don't know much about aftermarket systems so I can't help you there.

they(the speakers are very sufficient as i stated before. the question is about my concern that the speakers might need relief from taking the bass. i was thinking that adding a subwoofer would keep them "healthy" and not blown.

O sorry, I didn't get that, well I had my ML on full bass 99% of the time as well as my W220 (had it for 8 years). I don't think you need to worry, I believe the controls are auto adjusted to keep audio crisp which I guess lets your speakers "Breath"

l have been told..............

the speakers are Alpine............l had the HK in my 06 model and didn't purchase it for my new one..l think the system is fine..It would be nice to add the sub-woofer for the back, but l wouldn't bother......As mentioned, with the bass elevated..it sounds wonderful..........

Adding a sub would involve dealing with the MB optic rings >>>> headaches, since the Alpine and Harman Kardon systems have different specifications.

AM_Beagle, my nav upgrade guru,
With all due respect, nope its not. I just added a 12" Alpine Type-R sub to my HK system with the amp hidden away in the spare wheel area and a capacitor too. Everything is fine and I'm happy as a kid who just got a new toy

If needed, I can post pics and stuff like where I tapped in for amp inputs, yada yada yada.
