Anyone fill their own Adblue on their ML-350 Bluetec?
My wife is picking up a 2010 ML-350 Bluetec on Wed. The urea injector scares me a little, but I know that this is where everything is going. The main thing that scares me is the cost for the Adblue. I have seen it at truck stops and it seams reasonable. The Dealears cost is crazy for the fluid and the labor. I have seen where others have talked about filling their own. Is there anyone here that does? Does it mess with the warranty? Is it easy?
For some reason I think am willing to pay crazy prices for a MB oil change, but paying big bucks for some synthetic pee irks me.

Here's a source:

I can't speak to the ML BlueTec, but the VW and Audi require a service reset on the metering device when it's filled.

things with and without wheels
I know that engines in the trucking and bus industry require that the owner/operator to maintain their Urea, if you run out of "it" it will derate (detune ) the engine and set the SEL and the CEL light on tha twill require a vist to the shop.

Are you concerned about the windshield wiper fluid?
Congrats on your new truck.
To be honest I would be more concerned about my wife driving around on a run flat tire with no spare. I would make sure the dealer keeps the run flat in stock, because your new truck will be down for a day or two waiting on a replacement.

The AdBlue is $13 for 2.5 gallons at any VW dealer.....
My 2009 ML320 Bluetec has almost 10K miles and I have went through less than 2 jugs....In fact the second jug is still half way full....
The expense is minimal....
The engine is awsome!!! tons of power off of the line....The performance feels much better than the gas V6....I would describe it as somewhere between the V6 and V8 when it comes to perceived power...Great fuel economy....21-25 city and 25-31 highway!!!!
My only complaint with Bluetec (and these are minor)....no spare tire and runflats....Also, if the AdBlue tank is not full you can hear it "slosh" around.....
If you like it go for it....it truly is cutting edge technology!!

"you purchase a $55,000 diesel vehicle and you are hung up on the cost of "synthetic pee".

Everyone has a great point about the run-flats. I guess if she has a problem, I will hop in my BMW 135i and speed to her rescue....wait my 135 has run-flats! I guess I will hop in my wife's/dogs' VW New Beetle Convertible (Nickname: The Hairball) with the flower in the vase and rescue her in shame. Really I am not a run-flat fan either. I wonder how many folks switch to traditional when they are due to change tires.

Yes I fill it myself....If you let the MB dealer do it they charge you something like $25 per half gallon......maybe someone else can give the exact cost they charge....
It is as simple as opening a lid and pouring the liquid in....If you can add windshield washer fluid you can do this....
At $13 for 2.5 gallons at the VW dealer (the bottle also has BMW and MB part numbers on it) it works out to approx $2 of AdBlue for every 1K miles....
Pretty cheap if you ask me...

Just make sure the local Mercedes dealer has them in stock.
I will probably run the tires until I need to replace them. I will then look for a cheap spare on Ebay and buy regular tires.
You may even want to try to get the dealer to change out from a regular ML350 they have on the lot...probably a long shot but worth asking.
