2009 ML320 Bluetec
Question Is the backup camera pre-wired for ML without factory camera option?

Does any one know if the backup camera is prewired for ML without the backup camera option? I have a 2009 Bluetec, I want to install a camera, I'd appreciate any information on this.

no.. everything must be wired but the good news is that as long as your comand is camera ready and just needs to be coded to work (as long as you have the 7" screen and SD slot)

2007 ML350
I have bought a 2007 ML350 that didn't have Nav or Rear view camera and would like to know what I need in order to connect my new Command system w/ nav. and the rear view camera?

I took the command system & rear view camera from another 2007 ML350 (that was in a junk yard) but when I installed them on mines the nav system works but not the camera, when I drop the car into reverse the screen turn black but no feed from the camera... Its missing the cables that connect the two.

Does anyone know what I need to purchase in order to make the system work?

both vehicles need the coding that the camera is there to make it work. on the 2010 you can get modules like the VIM that have camera programmer software in it... it requires then a camera... on the ML and GL's as much as I hate to add aftermarket stuff to it, the plate cameras look great , the chrome plate surround on most of the vehicles, and the black on the black vehicles

also the 2007 is a bit tricky and rob can fill you in on wiring up a camera has he has the RCA to female pin adapters to add the camera input. still needs to be coded for a camera though unlike the 2010's which can be done with modules, the MB tech has to add it via scn coding and if they never did it before, might not be time efficient if they charge an hourly rate... as they are going to be scratching their head... (some not all)<<<< as not to offend the few on here that I know that know their MB's

ML320 CDI 2007
REVERSE CAMERA STOPPED WORKING SUDDENLY

Hi! I just bought a ML320 CDI (Sydney) from year 2007 with NAV and reverse camera. Everything worked perfectly but the rear camera doesn't appear in the screen when I engage reverse and used to do it before. I double checked fuse 37 from the rear fuse panel but everything looks good. I am thinking that the day before I went to the engineering mode in COMAND trying to find out about the Bluetooth audio...didn't touch anything there but maybe is that the reason?? There is no option in the car to switch on/off the rear camera, only says should work always when engage reverse gear. Any thoughts? Thank you!

The codes must be read with a scanner.

Thank you, I'm pretty new in this...do you mean that I have to connect to the ECU of the car? I have a ELM327 OBDII, not sure if it's that...

The answer is yes. Why are you concerned?

And why haven't you updated your profile?

Well, if you read my previous post you would know I am new in this and wasn't sure if posting public sensitive data like VIN is something that everybody does (didn't see anyone doing it), but here we go: WDC1641222A291733
My profile is updated as I created it one day ago, but obviously not enough? Not sure what else I have to add as already says my model car and year, country and location. Anything else you need to know? Could you help me with my issue in the car?
Thank you Maj. Dundee

Here is a copy of your DATA card which includes all of your feature options. These options are very important in that they tell me what version options you have, country, with or without Parktronic and so forth.

As for the updating, just stating that you have a 320 is not enough. The year and location tells everything. Look at the two versions of Back-up Camera. Now I know which one you have. Do you see what I mean?

Give me some time to find the instructions on retrofitting this feature. But I can tell you now that it will not be easy and will be expensive. And then it will have to coded into your vehicle using Star Diagnostics.

All vehicle options come pre-wired in the main harness. But when there is a retrofit, the components being added, with or without their harnesses, must be installed.

Thank you for all the information. Year and location was in my profile from the beginning, but I added it in my quick description, so I guess it's easier that way. Didn't expect is that hard to make work the camera again, as genuine from the vehicle and it was working two days ago... Do you think I messed up when I got into the engineering mode in the COMAND? (didn't modify any parameter tho...). Thank you!

I forgot to include a copy of your DATA Card with all option codes, but it doesn't show code 218 (Backup Camera). Please explain.

I looked high and low in Merc. WIS and they do not supply any retrofit instructions.

Yes I do believe so. Now it's going to be difficult to trace back what you did in the engineering mode.

Thank you so much for all that! About the backup camera, I'll send you some pictures about the radio and the rear exterior camera. I got 2 different radio books, one from the Audio 20 and another from Comand APS which is the radio that is currently in the car. I understand the buyer of the car bought it with the Audio 20 version without camera and after he installed the camera with the COMAND APS? that will have sense why doesn't appear en the option codes?

Why don't you enter the engineering mode again and see if there is anything about backup camera.

I already tried but there is nothing about backup camera. I read in some forums about hidden option in the engineering mode but never could get them (tried different codes). No idea what to do, as never changed anything from the engineering mode (or that's what I think...)

First watch this video on how to enter engineering mode.

Then watch this video starting at 5:54 on how to access the backup camera.

Hi again! Thank you so much for all that information but unfortunately doesn't work with my COMAND... If I'm not wrong, my COMAND is a NTG2 and all those videos are showing the NTG2.5 version I think (they have a SD slot that I don't have), also the software is different. I can access to my engineering mode in the LANGUAGE screen and pressing HUNG UP + LEFT TOP ARROW + AUDIO. Once I access, the menu I have is very simple, with not too many options and nothing about backup camera (attached few pictures). Also, my clock is completely different than the second video, so the code doesn't work for me neither
There is not too many information about my COMAND in internet (or I don't know where to find it). I send you this video I recorded to show you all the menus in my engineering mode:

Hi Ivanix, ive had the exact same thing happen to me after going in engineering mode also looking for Bluetooth audio volume. Did you manage to fix the camera issue and if so how? Tia
