icom 2720

i have an icom 2720 (ham radio), am still trying to figure out where is the best place to mount this in my 2010 ML350.
in my other car, i was able to hide the panel inside of the sunglass storage, but ML350 does not have one.

anyone has good suggestion for this? also, would appreciate if any can provide good suggestion on wher to mount the antenna.

thanks!!

Any luck yet? I just acquired a 07' ML320 and doing the same thing with my older D700, yanked it out from my 98' E300TD today (w/ over 260K figured it was time to upgrade)

I'm going to attempt to look at spots to install, one thought I had was remove the ashtray and put the head unit down there with some sort of bracket. Now my detachable display is a bit too tall, wonder if anyone makes a skinny one that I could fabricate a holding block under the sliding cover and hide when not in use???

PS did you mount antenna(s) yet? I’m just going 2M/440 - I used to do rubber lip mount easily on rear trunk and can add/remove without damage to the car/paint or drill the hole for the roof mount but it won't go through many public garages easily with one on with height… Decisions

i've been in and out of town due to business trips.
do you have automatic hatch? my first attempt was to mount the antenna holder bracket to the lower left side of the hatch door. when i did that and tried to close the automatic hatch - the hatch closed, then you can hear the sound of the lock trying to lock, but then the door popped up again -i believe the lock was not able to get into the proper locking position due to the antenna bracket.

i need to get this resolved first before i will move any further

Automatic gate...

Tomorrow I'm going to attempt these two items below as I have them from previous usage (it was a bit dark to work on it tonight), and I'll report back how they work (or not).

Phase 1 - It all works ;)

I quickly put this together, forgive my typo's
OK this is my rough 1st pass - I'm Ok/good with the antenna and the location of the Unit. Towards the head unit I'm a bit mixed and
will figure it out after more research of optimal location.

Is there a place on here to sticky or post technical articles on here?

Here are the pictures I took, comments before a few of them.

I tried the middle, but it's much shallower, and the front of this mount will hit the roof line, I moved it to the side and a lot more room

So I needed something to torque down the two left screws behind the Tailgate Arm, this did the trick to loop under the lip

Here I pulled back the soft black rubber rub rail, and ran the tiny part of the wire underneath, then unscrewed the top of the wire and snaked it slowly down into the Fuse box area.

Here I tapped off a 12V and a ground and ran it and the antenna to the passenger rear area

ere's looking under the rear passenger seat, I love how this area is available

I ran the wires under the side foot side skirts, just eased them up a little with a Flathead and kept pushing it along, I stopped at passenger seat and left the wires loose and got everything working... End of my efforts
for Today (I switched gears to hardwire my Radar Detector)

this looks good.
my only concern is the way you pull the signal cable through the rubber strip (photo #6) - will this cause water leak when it rains?
