OIL LEAK (Photos inside)... Pls identify part.

Please help me identify what part is in the ff: photos.

I haven't driven the ML550 for 2 weeks. I started her up this morning and I smelled burnt oil which I initially ignored. After pulling out of the garage, I found a small amount of oil on the floor.

Socketman, what causes that to go bad and cause a leak? I'm not mechanically inclined. Im trying to learn as much before I bring it to stealership.

Is that a cross member? or a does that hold oil inside?

Found this on another site:

The part just below it is the cylinder head cap seal (part 01505), but I'm not sure it's part of the recall. I'll try to get more details when I pick the car up later today.

He is right 2 ways to see it look up at the back of the head from under vehicle or remove engine cover and use a mirror to look at the rear of the head to see.
You can replace them yourself, the seals just start to leak. you can pop them out with a screwdriver.

I am somewhat disappointed with my ML because of this and am contemplating selling it or trading it in. I have owned other vehicles, bothe American and European, from the cheap ones to some of the expensive ones and never have I experienced something like this.

I may be overreacting to this issue but I don't expect this from MB. I've also read somewhere that this issue has been occurring a lot on the GL line.

This same engine is used in ALL Mercedes, and the V6 and the V8 are basically the same.
