Compass in rear view mirror ?
Is there any way to turn off the compass display in the rear view mirror on a 2011 ML350? I have looked through the owner's manual and can't find any reference to it.

No I haven't. I suppose I could perform a redneck solution with duct tape It is annoying to me when driving at night. The headlights and high beam indicators are too bright also. I have found the way to turn off the nav display while keeping it on so that helps.

I wonder who writes their manuals anyways ... not the clearest/complete ...

Did you try using the two Brightness buttons from the top of the "Instrument Cluster"?
If you will look in the Manual at page # 28, there is a Button # 2 that "Sets the instrument cluster lighting: dimmer". Maybe it will work for you.
Good Luck!!!

I can try, but I believe that is for dimming the instrument cluster. I don't want to dim the compass in the rearview mirror at the sake of dimming everything else in the instrument panel too!
I asked a Mercedes rept and they said it isn't possible ... it seems weird to not be able to contrrol such a thing ...

JimPurdy & speedy1701,
Sorry I was not clear.
My reply addressed the part " The headlights and high beam indicators are too bright also..." where the instrument cluster is involved.
It seems that most settings in the ML will make the owner settle for a compromise.
I am a new owner and have my share of issues. My frustration took me the UK site, which gives more detailed info. For example I was able to find a digital manual for the Comand, which it is not available in the US. (it is the previous version, but still is good).
Good Luck!

I agree that the headlight and high beam indicators are too bright. It is amazing with all the customization that you can perform with the different settings that you can't control those indicators as well as the compass in the mirror.
I remember years ago taking the high beam bulb from an old Volvo I owned and dipping the end of it in silver paint so it wouldn't be so bright. Getting to the indicator bulbs in a Mercedes is so much more difficult that you might end up spending 1/2 a day getting it done.
