HID kit for ML350
#2
HID kits can be found at ijdmtoy.com ; ddmtuning.com ; and tunersdepot.com I used the DDM kits for my headllights and fog lights. Had one ballast failure and it took several weeks to get it replaced. If I needed another kit I would not go with DDM simply because their customer service after the purchase was pretty poor. Hope this helps.

I went with DDM, its true the customer service is slow, but they do come through with tech support and warranty service eventually. I think they are the cheapest for a nice quality kit. You get digital ballasts for the price of most other vendors bulky analog ballasts

So I went to do a bit of research and price comparison, and hopefully I got this right, please do correct me if I am wrong
DDM - 50.00
TunersDepot - 161.95
iJDM - 79.99
those are the prices I am finding currently and those are complete kits, and are either for the high or low beam, that means I need 2 sets, I am not even counting the fog lights yet, that would be then 3 sets.
so from 50 to 160 is a big variance, my question is why, and what am I getting or not getting, seems the kits are all the same or very similar as to what you get, and all seem to be plug and play, some offer lifetime warranty, others one year, one I couldn't find
My car currently has the Halogen bulbs, and are the original ones, that so far is 4 years of life, do these HID bulbs last just as long or longer, or are they crapping out quickly, and replacement is necessary more often than not. Do they give off the dreaded error codes ? or has this been resolved
Many questions I know, but before I make the purchase, I want to make sure it's the right one....
Thanks
and it's not for the car in my sig, it's for my 2007 ML350........

I got the DDM 55watt kit with slim ballasts and I think it was like $50 + shipping. I have a 2011 ML350 and did not need the error eliminator. I have heard some cars will need them, when I did hid fogs on my old clk500 I needed a capacitor to get rid of the error code. I think some C class need it while others don't.
I actually ordered the error eliminators with my kit for an extra $15 since shipping wouldn't change too much. They allowed me to return the eliminators after I didn't see the error code after install.

That was the kit I was thinking about as well, it was the cheapest, and has lifetime warranty, can't go wrong there, I will need 2 kits it seems, one for the high and one for the low beam, I can wait on the fog lights, I think I will get the eliminators at the same time, just in case the 2007 does need them
but how come your 2011 ML did not come with HID's already, are they an option ?
Thanks for the input

HID's were a factory option, but not readily available on the 350 for some reason. I really wanted the lighting package since it came with HIDs, led light strip, and led tails, but I couldn't find one with all the other options I wanted.
Why do you want to do your high beams as well? high beams are hardly ever used and probably doesn't matter if you have halogen or hid.....low beams and city lights would be good to get done since they are always visible.

I received the new ballast for my right headlight from DDM Tuning and installed it. Worked fine for about an hour and then failed to ignite. Shortly after, the right foglight and left headlight failed to ignite (all are HIDs from DDM). Started the car an hour later and everything is working. Not sure if this is an electrical issue. Is there a need for MB to go in and update the ECM? My wife is ready to kill me for "messing up" her car.
Did you make sure you have the + & - correct on the ballast going to the stock wiring? If i recall correctly the wires are yellow and brown for the low beam and yellow is the +. Also was the car on when the bulbs wouldn't ignite? Maybe you aren't getting enough current without the ignition on to light all the bulbs.

I've had my kit in for about 3 weeks and no issues so far. I know over in the C class section people talk about setting Xenon = present via star diag. Not sure if there is a similar setting on the ML.

And you might be right, why do the high's, since they are seldom used, maybe scrap that and do the fogs instead....
Thanks

I have a 2006 ML350 and i'm thinking of installing some HID like i do on my TL which i love. What size are the bulbs on the ML? and what bulb color will get me a nice rich blue beam?
#14
The headlights are H7 and the foglights are H11. 6000K should give you the blue you are looking for, while 4300K - 5000K will be closer to OEM. Hope this helps.

If you go with 35W kit for H7 then 6k will be a nice color, if 55W kit, go with 8k bulbs since the brighter bulbs wash out some of the color. Fogs I would stay with 35w 6k kit

Thank you guys for your help, my next question was should i go with the 35W or 55w? Also do i need the error corrector?

For comparison my CLS has stock HIDs and when the 2 cars are side by side, the CLS looks like I have regular halogen lights compared to the whiteness of the kit on the ML.
The 55w kit gives off alot more light than the 35w kit. Just please make sure to aim your headlights afterwards or else you will be blinding everyone on the road.
For the fogs go with 35w b/c the housing is smaller and may not handle the added heat from the 55w kit.

Great info there nJuDunno.....
does the 8000k give a blueish tint at all, or is it white, I am not after the blue look at all, would prefer to have it as close to white as possible I was thinking the 55W but 5000/6000k
and yes was going to do the 35W for fogs in the same K as the main lights
and the error eliminators I was going to get either way it's only 15 bucks, even if I don't return them no big deal...
I think my order will be going in by the end of the week......
and if they work well and look good just might get some for the wife's Mazda3.....zoom,zoom

I really like the look of the 8000k 55w kit. It just looks super white, haven't noticed any blue in it. I wouldn't do fogs in the same k as the headlights. The 55w kit washes away some of the color, so a 8000k 35w kit will most likely have noticeable blue tint. I think 6000k 35w kit would look the same as the 8000k 55w kit.

I went with 55w 8000k for the headlights. Like I said earlier in this thread I didn't need error eliminators, but if you go with DDM just get the error cancellors and return if not needed since this may vary year to year.

I'm not sure where to buy this from and didn't feel like looking and waiting to install so just cut the wires. Maybe you can call and ask DDM if they know where to get it from.

[quote=nJuDunno;4636915] I had to cut the bulb wires, pass through the clip and then solder them back together. This makes the bulbs non-exchangeable incase you don't like the color.
I made a cut in the clip and soldered the clip.

Ordered H7 55w kit and the ballast says D2S/D2R bulbs, is it suppose to be like that? I see some people get zip ties and double sided tape and extra stuff, but I didnt get none of that.
