Hello, i read your input in the forum and wondered if i could service mine at 75K its a 2011 ML350 with i guess the 7 speed 722.9 . i got the car used at 72k called dealer they said it's never been serviced. now given its never been service should i just drain it "drop pan + drain torque converter+ change filter+gasket" or just I flush it? which is the safest route? i believe manual recommends 40K one mecanictold me it's fine to do it at 80K. had a bad experience before with a Toyota which i flushed at 100k and it went belly up 4000 miles later. that's why i'm caution and this is a Merc not a toyota so obviously repair cost will be higher.

Thank you for this post. My MB's are '14's (GL450/ML350) so maint may be different. But it caused me to check the manual. Both require trans flush and filter at 7 yrs or 70k. Maint manual also has disclaimer that failure to do required maint could void warranty. I know that doesn't mean MB must do the work. But now I know more than I did before this post.

Dealership told me 40k miles or 60 km to do the first trans flushing, very important because small metal debris ... break in.
Then second at 180k km, not 120k kilometers. I am in Canada, cost over 600CND plus tax.
The big issue is that to check the oil level needs a specific tool. Mercedes designed this trans no leaking. Actually, my ml350 is dripping a little bit at one hose-to-metal joint to the radiator, passenger side.

My 09 550 had the same problem and the mechanic decided to replace the hose at the 60,000 mile service.

Hi Guys,

After draining out transmission fluid from 2006 ML500, I just put new fluid into the port where a red cap is in front of the passenger side, I have driven since then. I sometime have felt somewhat stiff feeling. Can anyone advise me the right location of refiller port for transmission fluid?

It seems that you do not have a 2006 ML500 but you do have a 2005 Ml. What is your full vin #.

Thank you Maj. Dundee for the quick reply.
The VIN# is 4JGBB75E46A070048. The title shows 2006 MB ML500. The red cap is located behind the right headlight (passenger side)

Yes you do have a 2006 ML 500, here is a copy of your DATA Card.

Can you take a photo of the RED cap you are referring to? There is no fill port or tube for W164 vehicles. Do not drive you truck any further or you will irreparably damage the trans.

I believe that you put trans. fluid into the eng. oil dip stick tube. You have a huge problem.

Do you own your own home?

How long have you owned the truck and did you ever change the eng. oil & filter?

Maj. Dundee,

Yes I own my home. My eng. oil service has been done at MB dealership but I have not changed the eng. oil since I change the trans. fluid. The transmission oil change was my first DIY. I have owned this truck since 2009.

Before we go any further, do you think you can do your own oil and filter change by reading this PDF?

Do you have a floor jack?

Do you know a mechanic very near to your home?

Major Dundee,

I do have a floor jack. I think i can do it as the PDF shows.

I always used the dealership except this trans oil change. I know a mechanic about 10 miles away and the dealership is 30 miles away.

As i mentioned earlier i drove more than 500 miles since then, do you think it is repairable?

I hope this isn't your only car, but position it out of the way and facing the street so it will be out of commission and not to be moved again. Order the following items from Amazon and have them delivered. You need 10 qts. so order two on the oil.

Amazon Amazon

Call you mechanic tomorrow and ask him if he has the equipment to pump in trans. fluid through the drain plug on the trans. oil pan
