Need help with finding parts for rear view camera

Hi all,

I am new to this forum. I just recently bought a 2007 ML350 with everything fully loaded except for the rear view camera (backup camera). Because I wanted to put on the rear view camera I started searching and reading for awhile now and came to this forum. I have a few basic questions that you guy can help me out: what parts do I need and where can I get them?

I have found some useful information regarding parts that I need to get this working from this forum and other website.

Camera A164 820 04 97
Camera: A251 820 04 97
Modulator: A164 543 00 62
Camera A204 820 07 97
Wiring harness A204 440 49 08
Wiring harness A204 440 48 08

I found 2 sites that I can get the wiring harness from:
1, http://web13.server001.publicompserv...a-harness.html
2, http://kufatec.com/index.php?main_pa...oducts_id=1078

I main problem is getting the camera and modulator. Which camera do I need and where do I get them from? Where can I get a modulator? And which wiring harness is better or which should I use?

Please help... I need this project done soon because we really need the rear view camera!!!!

Thanks.

It turns out that my comand has no green FAKRA input for TV. So, I cant just get the parts and hope for plug and play.

I was looking into the mid city engineering vim164 and it also seem to require the green FAKRA. Can someone help clear this up for me? Can I use VIM or do I have to replace comand all together?

I also looking into what kind of camera I can use for rear view camera. It turns out I can use any aftermarket camera. Do you guys have any suggestion as to which has the high quality and resolution and decent in price?

I will keep this thread going with whatever route I take as I think that someone like me would find it useful.

Thanks.

I just got all the parts: CarTronics VIM and KENWOOD CMOS-200. However, the process was harder then I thought , but that won't stop me from trying . If anyone know or have information about how to take apart the back cover hatch of the ML350 please shear that with me. Or better, yet, the hold process of installing the rear view camera. I already mount the VIM to the headunit but I haven't tested that, yet. Oh yah, I ordered the service manual from MBUSA yesterday but it will take sometime to get here. But I am impatient. So tell me tell me please.

So I wired most camera to the glove box with everything ready to go. BUT, there is one big problem that I am facing which is powering up the CarTronics and the Camera. The CarTroincs doesn't say that the power need to come from either permanent ON power line or Accessory power (only on with key) line. The KENWOOD camera says that it need to go to Accessory power and DO NOT connect to the permanent ON. It make sense to me that both units should go on the Accessory power. This comes the BIG problem; I DON'T KNOW WHERE IS THE ACCESSORY POWER LINE or how to fine it. Cartronics, please help me. Or anyone who know how to find it please let me know. I am almost done with this project. Just need to know this Accessory power line and then I put the car back together and start the DIY write up.
Thanks.

It should be accessory power, and the cigarette lighter is the easiest to get to.

I put them all together and they came together nicely and work. but, the CarTronics VIM sometime making laud rapidfire noise of relay when put in reverse. it happen about 10% of the time. and some other time it would give me a blankout, only happen about 5% of the time. most of the time, it works. I dont have time to upload the process and the pictures right now because i am really busy. i will do so afterward. Thanks

The rapid noise you here is from a bad reverse connection. It needs a solid 10v+, and is probably getting 9. Call out support and they can help you quickly.
