Yes, as long as the Rear SAM is coded properly for YOUR vehicle.

Just buy a rear SAM, get someone with SDS to read your CURRENT SAM and mark the adaptation #'s. Then plug in the NEW SAM and code it based on the adaptations from the other car.

Hi,

Thanks for the info.

When you say "Then plug in the NEW SAM and code it based on the adaptations from the other car.", do you mean code it with the adaptations from the faulty SAM.

Does the mileage need to be lower on the replacement rear SAM to be able to take the current mileage on the faulty SAM.

Thanks

I mean code the NEW SAM the same way the OLD SAM was coded. This is simply because we don't know what features the car you bought the NEW SAM from has. The idea is to ensure it works with your car and its features.

I have never heard about coding the mileage into the SAM. The SAM is the Mercedes equivalent to Audi's Comfort Control Module.

Yup... neither the front-SAM (Signal-Aquisition-Module) nor the rear-SAM does carry the mileage.

When I went to get the second hand SAM coded they said it couldn't be done as it is matched to a different vehicle. They said the other vehicles ID is code into the SAM.

I was told that the SAM need to be hack to get around this issue.

MB and independent garage couldn't do it with SDS.

The SAM doesn't need to be "hacked", but they need a SDS with developer access (developer mode) to be able to adjust the settings to your car's equipment.

So the second hand replacement SAM doesn't need the cars ID added to it then?

AFAIK, there's neither a vehicle ID nor the mileage stored in the SAM. But I never worked on a SAM myself, so my knowledge is not first hand.

Go to an MB dealer and have it coded to your vehicle with their SDS, based on your VMI.
