ML320CDI Oil Change
I am getting ready to do my first oil change on my 2008 ML320CDI. I have had all the other ones done by the dealer, but I just can't handle the wait and the $280 cost. My question is does anyone have experience with using the MityVac or another oil extractor pump with the ML320CDI? The guy at my local O'Reillys told me it wouldn't work well, and it wouldn't get all of the oil out especially the sludge at the bottom of the pan. I have changed plenty of oil in the past via the drain plug, and I am no opposed to getting under the car. But the posts I have seen for other vehicle owners who have used the MityVac are pretty convincing that this is a nice tool to use. Thanks!

2006 E350, 2008 ML320CDI
I've been using a MityVac for several years and it works great. I had to drop the oil pan on our E350 to replace a sensor and there was absolutely zero sludge in the bottom of the pan - it looked brand new.

Use the Mitivac or similar. Works great and it's the way recommended in the MB repair manual. I have been using it for years now, and have over 122000 miles on mine. I was a skeptic at first, and once after the suction method, I drained the plug and NOTHING came out other than a drip or two. Now I don't have to remove and clean the soundproofing felt on the oil pan or fight with the splash shield.
It would be hard pressed to find sludge buildup on a motor that's been running on 229.51 spec oil that was changed at least every 10000 miles.
Once you try the vac method, you will never switch back.
