A/C problems...blows hot air
So I just picked up my 2008 ML63 and little by little starting to find a bunch of headaches or skeletons in the closet. The A/C blows warm air. Doesn't get cold at all in any setting. Took it to the stealer and they said that it was empty and when filling it up with freon they could visibly see it coming back out. They quoted $2K for new condenser and to fix it. Is this for real? Anybody experience this before and or DIY the repair for this? Summer is just around the corner...

anybody have any experience with this? shocking that my 2000 S4 has strong A/C but my 2008 AMG doesnt. I'm pretty handy with a wrench but would like to hear from experienced people. Any DIY for replacing the compressor or at least removing the bumper or anything?

I would find an indy shop that can work on MB.. You might find the cost more palatable. I think the condensor should be less than 1000.00. You typically replace the receiver drier when you open the system to ensure there is no moisture.

Just take the car to an Auto Radiator/AC Shop and get a second opinion. These people are pretty good and have great prices. Don't mess with used parts or dealer repairs unless it is a dealer only part or problem. Just my two cents worth...

I second the AC/Radiator shop. There is more similar than different when you are dealing with AC hardware issues. The MB shop sees lots of MBs with a few AC failures. The AC shop see AC failures every single day.

let us know the outcome. It seems, I will run into similar issue soon. AC on my 2007 w164 sporadically starts blowing warm air then cold comes back and then it disappears again. if someone had such experience, please let us know what might be wrong and what you had end-up fixing it.

If the cold is cold, then you probably have a bad compressor clutch or one of the sensors that shuts off the system is bad. (over/under pressure, High temp, etc.).
Is the warming related to anything else, like sitting still as opposed to driving, could be a bad radiator fan or a fan not running for other reasons.
If it is related to humid weather, it could be a dirty filter or evaporator and icing up.
If it is only working so-so when it is working then it could be low on charge and you have to look for a slow leak.
As always, an AC shop can usually figure it out.
