Slight grinding noise in front end 2006 ML500

Installed new brakes(which were wore out), drive shafts feel firm as do the front axles
no vibration while driving, just the noise.

It's constant. Speeds above 20mph it's a steady whining/grinding noise. Turning the wheel while driving doesn't change the sound or feel of ride.

I'd re-check your work. Make sure everything is bolted down tight, the anti-rattle clip is in place properly, etc..

If you've noticed it right after doing the brake job then I'd start there.

I will recheck everything, but I didn't notice the noise for at least a month after brake job

Possibly. I can turn both wheels by hand though. When I jacked up the front end and turned the wheels I really can't hear anything. Noise starts around 25mph.

It's possible the wear is on the top inner side of the outer bearing surface. When you jack up the axle and turn the wheel, the lower, unworn side of the bearing is supporting the wheel, thus, no noise when you spin the wheel...........

Did you find out what it was?

I'm experiencing the exact same thing. Same noise 2 weeks after a brake job. Did you ever find the cause?

Thanks
