2008 ML350 brake job cost?

How much should I expect to pay for all new pads and rotors plus labor?

When I had the 2011 ML the charge to replace just the front and rear pads was close to $700 through the dealer.

On my 2012 ML only the rear pads needed to be replaced and it was $392.

I could be wrong, but If you need four new rotors I would guess you are probably looking at at least $250-$300 each +/-. I'm sure someone else will chime in and be able to answer you better.

I called dealer this morning and got an estimate of $1157 for four pads, four rotors, sensors, labor and tax. Expert Tire quoted right at $1200. An indy quoted close to $1100, but another indy quoted $650. To top it all off, a dealer three hours away estimated $900! They're all over the place!

Look up the parts on Rockauto or similar site. I learned to do my own disc brake changes. Easy just takes time. I'm guessing for 4 discs & pads (mid range price/quality), you're probably looking at $500 for parts. I like ceramic pads & mid price discs. You might be able to order the parts yourself & take to Indy shop & just pay labor. Remember to change the dot4 fluid every 30k if due.

07 ML350 Brake Job estimate

Asked a well-reviewed local MB independent repair facility this question, a couple weeks ago and they said $500 for all four brakes, but rotors were not in the estimate. This was for new pads and labor.

I had bought some ceramic pads from Pep Boys (a discount parts chain), and this indy advised me to return the pads as too low quality they would not recommend to have on the car.

Buying the parts should save you quite a bit of money, but I guess you should get quality parts. Perhaps another forum will have a recommendation as to what brand is good.

The brand I've used on several of my cars over the years is : Power Stop Evolution Ceramic. Brake well with almost no brake dust. Also had good luck with Hawk pads if you want high performance pads, although they're pricy and dusty.

Without looking things up tonight genuine OE M-B rotors were about $75 each and brake pads were $100 for each end of the car. So $200 for pads and $300 for rotors (if rotors are really necessary).

If you can change a flat tire you should be able to change brake pads and rotors.

Flushing of brake fluid is usually done with brake pads but M-B specifies this as a 20k service interval so there is no need or point in changing the brake fluid with the pads. Its already getting done more often than necessary.

Cost of brake job

As it turns out, I just had a 100K checkup on my 07 ML350 and brakes were done two days ago.
Here are the prices I paid at a local (Skokie, IL) independent MB service shop:

$230 Replace Front brake pads and rotors labor
$79 Set of front brake pads ceramic
$122 two front rotors
$8.50 one brake pad sensor (guess the other one was OK!?)
$79 Labor Flush Brake Fluid
$18.55 Brake Fluid

537.05 total

Cost at a MB dealer? Hmmm, just sign over your house, and retirement fund...

I believe only the AMG has brake pad sensors on both left and right. Maybe the 500/550's have it both sides too but the 320/350's only have one front and one rear brake pad sensor.

If the pads are replaced before the sensor wears through then it doesn't have to be replaced. But for $8.50 while you are in there? Replace it!

Was digging on other things and saw some high end BMW's have a 2-stage brake wear sensor. BMW used the first stage to establish a wear rate so as to guess how many miles remaining before you wear the last stage. The first stage breaks about half way through the pads so those sensors always have to be replaced unless one replaces pads with over half their life remaining.

A question for PNTbenz: what brand ceramic pads were used? And do you have matching ceramic pads on the rear? I have a mild phobia about mixing front and rear with different brake compounds which might confuse the ABS/ESP computer. When the time comes I will do my pads myself so its only about $80 more to get the same front and rear.

In an unexpected twist it appears the OE brake rotors are the least expensive option of good repute. Aftermarket is unusually expensive unless one considers mystery brands from China.

ML350 brake job

N4HHE, thanks for the info on only one sensor. As for the pads, the shop says it uses MB OE parts. The ceramic pads installed feel smooth and are working better that ever, so there appears to be no issues about mixing pads, as the rear are likely to be regular pads, not the ceramic upgrade I asked for.

I had bought some Pro-Stop ceramics, and the shop said they did not recommend using any of the after-market pads, so I returned them to Pep Boys and went with the better pads provided by the shop (and of course cost me more and made them more profit to be sure).

I was not aware MB offered ceramic pads? $79 sounds like a great price to me.
