HELP! Transmission problem

HELP! Transmission problem

ML350 diesel 2011 70,000KM
Fault: After the vehicle has been driven for at least 30 to 40 minutes, the transmission pulses when under light to moderate acceleration between the 40 - 60 KMPH. It occurs more often when driving uphill but sometimes occurs on level roads.
Pulsing, modulating or jerking motion is the best description. It is not a shuddering or slipping motion.
Gear changes are smooth.

A transmission shop found a broken seal inside the torque converter. They rebuilt the torque converter but this has not rectified the problem. Could this be a fault with the Torque Converter Lock Up Clutch ,or the adaptive software or transmission solenoids or valve body? Any ideas out there?

I think you need to get the codes read on the transmission. Secondly, are you certain it is the transmission causing the symptoms?

The dealership says there are no fault codes showing up on the diagnostic computer. It feels like a transmission problem but I will suggest that the workshop considers an engine problem. Thanks for your input.

Also consider the diff and transfer case. It might be a gear or bearing failure.

OK. The Mercedes dealership workshop foreman initially suggested Torque Lock Up Clutch modulation because it only occurs after the transmission is fully warmed up. Apparently the Torque Lock Up Clutch only operates when the transmission is fully warmed up. Also the motion the fault produces (like driving over corrugated roofing iron) is consistent with Torque Lock Up Clutch modulating on and off.

I see. I would take it into the MB dealer and pay the cost of a proper diagnosis. It sounds like the transmission shop may be a little out of their element. Either way, you have a second opinion form some one who has actually looked at it.

Problem solved

Under the protection of the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act , after three months of ownership I rejected the product and returned the ML to the dealer for a full refund.

Had a similar issue, dealer had me do a diesel filter change which was not it. It was a plate or board IN transmission that was cracked. Fixed under warranty with a fight, I was second owner and happened right at 50,000 miles.
