Ml500
New to mb

Hi guys. I need some help with the purchase of my 1st mb.
It's 2007, ml500, 165,000 miles selling for $8,888.00......
Idk if I should be leary due to high milage or if these cars last the test of time. I should add it has has only 1 owner and has a decent maintenance record also

I bought mine with only 46k miles on it and in less than 10k miles I have already spend over $2k on repairs. If it has the air suspension be prepared to replace it or ask when was the last time it was replaced.

If you haven't already bought the car, I suggest getting a pre-purchase inspection done by a Mercedes dealer.

Run away, love my 2010 ML350 Blutec but would never buy another MB again, the quality is just not there for longevity for the money.

Just curious, what is it that you love about your ML350?

The ride is great, the seating position for long drives is very good, very quiet around town and on the highway. For as heavy as it is it gets good milage, nice power, it holds speed on cruise control, even on hills.
The down side is maintenance cost is outrageous, no spare so you have to run runflats or keep fixaflat in the trunk area. Repair cost are very high.
I purchased used, 38000 miles, very good condition, in my opinion other then oil changes, brakes and tires I should not have spent one dime on anything else.
I was lucky, I had an extened warranty:
Transmission issues, had to fight to get that fixed under MB warranty, started at 45000, they made me do a fuel filter and oil change before they looked at transmission, found other MLs with same issues on this sight, and sent techs to look, and I was correct.
Addblue tank heater went out, had to replace the complete unit 75000.
Front end suspensions parts replaced at 75000.
Brakes, standard brakes last till about 40000, I put on ceramic, should get about 100,000 out if these.
They eat tires, and mine are a funky size, 19", more selection at 18 or 20.

Too bad that you have had so many issues. My W164 has been mostly flawless. I have about 120k on the odo. Tire wear has been unremarkable and brake life has been impressive. I did have to replace an airmatic compressor a month or so ago. I suspect the dealer would have charged well over a grand for the work. Other than that, maintenance has been routine.

Airmatic is a high cost system to maintain as the cars get older.

The best thing I did with with my 2006 ML500 was sell it. It was not the same quality as other MB vehicles I have owned.

You need to have a specialist look at the car, check f any fault codes and see if expensive items such as the transmission conductor plate has been replaced.
