Thinking about buying 09 ML550

Hi all,
Just joined, I'm looking at buying an 09 ML550 with 110k. It has all its maintenance up to date at the MB dealer. It was serviced before it was due since it was bought. It does have air ride. Looks super well taken care of. The place I'm buying it from said its a sold car, if it's been maintained. Is that true? it's coming with a full 2 year warranty.

Would you guys run, or buy it? I'm somewhat handy with cars, not worried about doing most things automotive, just nothing with major engine, or transmission. Any insight would be great from you guys. I'll continue to read threads. thanks.

I purchased one last summer, but with only 60k miles. Now at 80k miles and running strong. With a good history and PPI, go for it.

Mine has cost me. And it is mint without a scratch. Runs silky smooth.

I got mine with 75K km and 2 years after and 20K km after I've had to fix the following.

1) Power steering pump reservoir leak. I managed to do it myself but it was a PITA since the V8 offers very little room to work with. MB wanted $450 to install a $2 rubber seal.

2) Right LED tail light burnt out. $600

3) Left LED tail light started to flicker. The seals go bad and the part has been updated. I managed to dry it off as water accumulated and sealed it inside with silicone. So far so good. $5 cost of silicone.

4) HVAC blower. Another part that has been updated with a new part number from MB. The original that comes with the car corrodes the internal electronics. $600

5) Front right side wheel bearing. $450

6) stretched timing chain. this one hurt the most. Engine had to be pulled and I have had everything replaced, chain, tensioner, idler gear and chain guides. I pick it up today. $3500

7) I haven't addressed this yet. But in the front right I get a knocking sound over bumps. It's not the bushings. We have checked. It has to do with the shock. Anticipated cost of a new airmatic shock with ADS is $1000.

Other issues others have had to deal with.

1) Front differential bearing.
2) Tailgate latch issues.
3) Airmatic (compressor, bags leaking)

Are you driving my car? Every one of those points are spot on.

Buying any euro car with over 60,000 miles is like cuttting your wrists. I've had all those problems and more in my 06 ML350.

Oh, sorry, thought you got linked to my reply. Really like the look of those wheels you have. I found the info I needed after reading your other post again.

Add front airmatic to the list. Dont know whats wrong with it just yet. But I got the front end droop over the weekend. Its also in for the rack and pinion replacement. This is going to be one stupid expensive week.

If it’s got a warranty I don’t see that you would have anything to loose.
