Lumbar support issue W164

We have a 2009 ML350 Base.

Every time we start it up, the lumbar support re-inflates and we have to manually re-set it to a comfortable level.

The manual controls seem to work fine. The seat does not have a memory setting.

Is it supposed to do this? It seems like a pain to have to re-set it every time you drive.

Thanks for any insights!

I had this until I changed both batteries, the main and the little auxilliary next to it.

I'll probably regret this, now I've mentioned it it'll come back!

Thanks. How strange! I wonder if simply disconnecting and reconnecting the batteries would do the trick.

Think about it. How can faulty battery/s effect the lumbar seats, and nothing else in the car?

That was my thought in considering simply disconnecting and reconnecting to reboot the lumbar system. But I'm not very knowledgeable, so if there's something else I should consider ...

I have no other thoughts on this, I was trying to suggest that buying two batteries would be a waste of money.

If it's the driver's seat remove fuse #28 in the Load Comp. Fuse Box and then reinsert. If it's the passenger seat, it's the green fuse next to it.

Thoughtful tip -- thanks!

I can't explain it but then I don't profess to be a forum expert.

I just know that before changing the batteries, it forgot my lumbar settings every time, now it doesn't.

Maybe, the auxiliary battery doesn't facilitate the storing of such settings, maybe its just magic???

It was probably a just reset that you fell into.

If you had a faulty main battery or under/over charging, the CEL light and the ESP lights would would all illuminate.

The aux. battery's only purpose is to supply emerg. voltage to the shifter if the main battery goes dead, so you can place in in neutral and have it towed. The other purpose is to supply voltage to the Anti-theft system if the battery goes dead.

2009 ML350
I just bought a 2009 ML350 4matic, without memory seats. I have the same problem...as soon as I open the door, the lumbar support slightly inflates, requiring pressing the release button (rearward) on every drive. Not a big deal, and maybe faulty module? I tried the remove and replace fuse procedure, with no change. Further thoughts anyone? Thanks all. Full VIN is 4JGBB86E19A466768.
