Please Help with 2009 ML550 LED Tail Lights

hi, I think i am losing my mind! My rear turn signal is showing an error on the dash and not working correctly. I ordered a used tail light and 4 of the 8 LEDs for the signal worked. I returned it. I ordered another one from Harouts and they stated these are take offs from demo cars in Germany and tested. I plugged it in and 6 of the 8 LED tail lights work. Again throwing an error code. I spoke with my mechanic and he says they all must be bad and nothing wrong with the car. I am finding it very strange now that ALL 3 are bad, I mean how bad could my luck be. What else can I do or check? Thanks, I'm really losing it!

There are approx. 30 different possibilities with all the replacements and everything depends on your chassis #.

Post your full vin# and please UPDATE YOUR PROFILE in USER CP to include where you live.

If you ordered a replacement and it has LEDs, you are trying to use the wrong taillight assembly. I have a 2009 ML550 too, they don't use LED lights, they use conventional incandescent bulbs. I don't know if anyone sells aftermarket LED taillights for this model. I have not personally seen any but haven't looked that hard.

One thing you might check is if the bulb holder is securely installed. My right brake light gave me grief for weeks, until I finally realized I had not installed it securely. If it comes loose it will show an error on the dash.

Hi, the ML's come with an optional lighting package. My car has the optional lighting package which includes BI-xenons and led tail lights. I have ordered the correct replacements. But they were NOT new.

Far as I know that option package included bi-xenon headlamps, a headlamp washing system, and fog lamps. Nothing about LED taillights.

yes, LED tail lights. See the attached picture. Here is the light. Notice the white center lights. There are 8 LEDs and only 6 of them work. On my original one it's a different set that don't work. I should add that ALL Other lights in all 3 tail lights I have tried work fine. The only issue is with the White Turn Signals. And of course the computer throws an error.

Also, i couldn't find the 2009 Brochure, but I found a 2010 Brochure packages look identical, here is the optional lighting package, you can check out the brochure.

https://ragtop.org/mbbrochures/2010/2010-M-Class.pdf
Lighting Package:
• Bi-Xenon headlamps with Active Curve Illumination
• Corner-illuminating front fog lamps
• Headlamp washing system
• LED taillamps

Ah, I found it in the 2009 model year SUV brochure. I stand corrected.

so what are you suggesting? Order another one, this time brand new? Or should I have wiring and SAM unit tested?

Grubster, I am not suggesting anything. The part numbers I supplied should be compared to the part numbers you ordered/have.

As a matter of fact, what are the part numbers stamped or labeled on your original ones?

Its not the SAM. Its the used ones you bought. Scammers trying to make a buck whatever it takes.

Get a new one from the dealer. It will be an updated part number cause they fixed the seals.

My car came with A164820294, both parts I received were the same part number.
I will try from Dealer to get A1649064400

Thanks I will try that. Dealer wants 450 retail, 360 wholesale, I"m gonna try to get wholesale.

I did not use scammers, I used Elite Auto Lights and Harout's Mercedes\BMW Parts. Both companies are letting me return the lights and were very professional. Scammers would not allow me to get full refund and be helpful with my troubleshooting. I'm either having very bad luck with lights, my car has something else going on, or I really need the new model.

Might be unrelated, but my 2009 ML550 will not tolerate LED lights on a trailer unless I use a special adapter in the electric connection. FWIW...

That is an invalid part number. It requires 10 didits.

What document, what post? You were asked what was the part number on the tail lamp itself.

I have a 10/2009 build ML550 with led tail lights. Both failed and were replaced under warranty. I was told that the leds can't be replaced individually. Both replacement units were new from MB, not second hand. I didnt compare part numbers but was led to believe that the new units were different to the originals. I've had no problems since their replacement. It wasn't the SAM as many have suggested. Hope this helps
