Blind spot assist sensor removal

2013 ML 350 blind spot not operable. Want to replace sensor units but cannot get them out of the plastic case holding them in place. Located inside the rear bumper. Reaching up from under the vehicle so I cannot see how the sensor is held in place. Thought it would be an easy fix but cannot get the units to budge.

They slide out, there is a tab on one end that kinda holds them in and then the radar slides out, have to unplug it first.

I often have a very hard time getting them loose in place, I often pop the clips that hold the bracket off the bumper, remove the whole thing, then clean and separate it, re-install the holder and slip the new radar in after.

Thanks so much - I will give it a try this weekend.

Hi. Do you have an update on this? I am having trouble sliding them out as well. Did you have to drop the rear bumper? Also, if you did get them out, were you able to clean them and get them to work? Or did you have to replace them?

I did eventually get the units out. I didn't need to drop the bumper but I needed to bend the heat shield enough to I reach up to release the clip. I don't remember if the unit slides forward or back but I used a large screwdriver as a lever to push the unit out. The unit doesn't come out easily due to grit from road dirt.
Unfortunately my unit did not work after cleaning it so I ordered a new unit online from a German company. It cost approx $265.00 (much better than $1100 the dealer wanted to fix it). The other challenge is I did not know if it was the driver side or the passenger side unit was out. I had a 50/50 chance and I removed the wrong one. When I installed the new unit the system still didn't work but when I took out the passenger side and switched them the system worked and has worked fine since.
Hope this helps.

I tried to find the website but wasn’t able to locate it. Google the part number and several places will show the part is available. I decided to buy a new part because I found one at nearly the same cost as the used ones.
Sorry I couldn’t help more. Good luck!

hi, which company supplied your new replacement sensor and did it need re-programming? I bought 2 new sensors but didn't work...will need programming.
