Diesel Fuel line Replacement

My 07 320CDI is leaking fuel from one of the fuel lines. Looking at the parts diagram there is a small short one and a long complicated one. My son has the car so it's not in front of me. How hard is the long one to replace?

No, I'll be at the car Wednesday. When I looked at parts one of the lines was kind of long and I wondered how hard the other end was to access.

I saw when I did the parts lookup there were two versions of the longer hose, but didn't see how to tell which one I need.

Driving home this evening my 2008 ML 320 CDI developed a serious diesel leak, underneath and just behind the front wheels. No visible leaks looking from the top into the engine bay. The diesel only leaks when the fuel pump in the tank is running. The fuel line from the tank to the front must have ruptured or pulled apart. I hope it's a simple fix. The vehicle is now standing in a parking lot. Tomorrow I'll get underneath to see what's going on. Any advance advice of what I should be watching out for will be appreciated. Thank you.

If it's the line don't bother with trying to replace the entire line. Plus you wont find it. Splice into where the leak is. I've done it twice.

It took 2 hours to locate this diesel leak! The Connector on the Injector Return Fuel Line had sprung off the rear injector on the driver's side (LH drive vehicle). I have no idea how the lock ring on the connector managed to slide upwards on its own, and for the connector to pop off. When the connector 'popped off', there was a sudden engine misfire and power loss whilst driving. In fact, the engine completely stalled after a minute or so. It would immediately start up again only to stall again a minute later. I had no idea a simple leak on an injector return line could have such an impact on the engine performance!

To access this connector, remove the left air filter box and then the black foam rubber padding that covers the injector lines. These plastic connectors, that attach to the injector overflow tubes, have a lock ring that you slide upwards to release it from the injector, and conversely, slide down to lock it in place.

... pulled the lock ring upwards, pushed the connector back onto the injector, and locked it in place by sliding the lock ring down - no more leaking. I'm replacing the whole (for all 6 injectors) Injector Return Fuel Line anyway. The part is on order and costs $103.00 including tax. The vehicle is 17 years old with 300 000 km on the clock. Can't really complain!

This plastic connector on the injector return fuel line popped off from the injector causing the to misfire and stall. The connector has a lock ring that slides up or down to release or lock it to the injector overflow tube.

Removal of the Injector Return Fuel Line on W164 OM 642 engine

Additional detail for the removal of the Injector Return Fuel Line. None of this is difficult; it's simply useful to know ahead of time if you don't do this every day:

A small opening cut into the ring of a 17 mm spanner to enable it to slide over the injector pipe and onto the injector nut. Due to limited room around the the injector nut, using the flat side of the spanner can cause the nut and/or the injector return tube to be damaged;

Several items connected to the common rail need to be loosened, or completely removed, in order to slightly lift the front end of the common rail so that the nylon connectors on the fuel return line can pass through underneath. This image does not show all items that need to be loosened or removed;
