Transmission out at 140K miles?! WTF?

Seriously? Stealer wants $10k for a factory trans installed. Ya, right. JUst what you need in a car worth $6000. Is it possible that like BMW 2007 ML CDI has a GM trans?
If not guess I will push it into the toyota dealer and get a car that will last. My Lex SUV ran without a hitch for over 200k. If you ask why I was so stupid as to buy a Benz if Lexus was so good to me? Benz store had a Lex SUV with 25k miliese so we went to buy it and my wife got talked iinto how SAFE the Benz was. Ya sure. She was not real safe sitting out in the boonies with a car that left her stranded and in an area with no cell svc. Luckily another woman stopped and gave her a ride to town. This is the last Benz for me. Hope you are reading this Benz of NA. Every person who I talk to that is looking for a car I will pass along this experience.

Mercedes rebuilt trans is ~$3k plus installation.

Mercedes designs and produces its own transmissions

thanks for teh info. Just got word from local rebuilder $5k installed. Says that problem was caused by not addressing faulty MAF sensor. Drove it for 6 mos. OMG! Our independent tech said not to worry about it. WE have loved this guy for 10 yrs and now we have a mess.

That’s why I don’t like to keep cars much more than 120,000 miles or so. It seems like every car I keep more than that needs a transmission around 150,000-180,000 miles or so. Maybe it’s just chance or bad luck, but transmissions have failed me in a Jeep Wrangler and Ford F150 within that range.

It was wrong for your mech. to say don't worry about the MAF but the dealer is lying to you, in that the MAF Sensor has nothing to do with the trans.

Find an independent mech. who has the equipment to do a trans. fluid andfilter change.

Hello. I was curious your service history of the transmission. I have over 175k on mine but I change the fluid every 40k. I am now changing the differentials also with the trans. And the transfer case every 20 with the air and fuel filters.

C230 Sport Coup + 2006 W164 ML350 + 99 Ford Escort (What the heck, it gets 38 mpg!)
I have some spare muffler bearings to go with the MAF if you need them.

You know I would but who can beat this price of only $33.95? But of course it's the installation that's the killer at
5 grand.
