W164 Wheel bearing, RWD
I'm starting to hear howling noise coming from the front passenger side (right side sitting in the car) and I know it's the wheel bearing starting to go. I wanted to just order the bearings ahead of time since I just hit 100K miles on my 2011 ML350 RWD, but I'm not certain that I'm getting the right part. Previous Mercedes I've worked on have angular bearings in the front that ride on a spindle. Every video or instructional on wheel bearing replacement I see is for a 4-Matic with a drive axle. The bearing looks different in these. I haven't taken the wheel off yet to verify but I'm thinking all the hits I get for a wheel bearing is showing me a bearing for a 4-Matic W164 instead of a RWD one. Can someone verify if this is the correct bearing:

Why do you mention RWD which means that your steering wheel is on the right side, U.K. version?
You also say that you have a 350, is it a 164.156 or a 186?
What is your full vin#?

RWD means Rear Wheel Drive, that is, there is no front drive axle. The bearings seem to be different depending on RWD vs 4-Matic. That was my question - are the bearings different or the same. I have a US W164 so my steering wheel is on the left.

I misinterpreted RWD and I really didn't think they had these on a W164.
According to your vin#, the front bearing is all the same, RWD or not.
Also , find a copy of your DATA Card with all your options.
These bearings are not easy to remove as the hub is also usually damaged and requires special tools, it must be pressed in and out. Let me know if you need instructions.

I didn't know they did 2WD versions! I've never seen one over here, perhaps they didn't export any to us?
Anyway, here's a good thread on the changing process....

After you take off the tire, could you supply us with a photo of the rotor before and after removal.

I took the front wheel off last night and it looks exactly like your pic above. I’m having trouble posting the pic but it was the same. Thanx for the info. I know I can purchase the correct bearing now.
