Question Empty socket under dash

Hi All,

Newbie here to Mercs.
Just bought a new tow tug, 2006 ML320 CDI W164 V8 turbo diesel, (185,000 Klms).
It got new air suspension and ball joints at 150,000, and I have just fitted 4 new rotors pads & sensors, LH front driveshaft (boot was split), and 4 new tyres, good to go.
My only issue at the moment is I discovered a cigarette lighter socket molding under the passenger side dash, but it is empty, never had the socket fitted (see picks).
My question is what is the best way to get a cable to it, and are there any tricks to removing that panel?
I have install my dash cam, and I also need power for the phone chargers, I have a 4 socket extender with two Bluetooth ports in the glove box, but I would like to lose the wire across the console.

Blanked off lighter mount.

No lighter socket fitted.

Cheers
Tex

It is not a cigar lighter, it is a 12v charging port. I assume that you just need the charging element.

The first thing you must do is remove the cover under the dash and find the two wire connector. If you find the connector order part #910 in the diagram.

It’s an ISO 4165 socket, a thing with Germans. You plug in your electric cool box or tire pump here.

Ok, Thanks for that info, I believe it was Part No. 110.
Anyways I had a close look at the existing plug in the cargo bay and determined it was just a reasonably well made glorified cigarette lighter socket, I purchased two quality Marine sockets substantially similar to the MB one for about a twentieth of the price of one MB one.
However my question still remains, if they did not install the plug at manufacture (extra?), would I in fact find any wires for same behind the cover? If not, I understand the supply point is located in the fuses in the drivers side kick panel, correct?
BTW. the marine sockets are rated at 20 amps, and the "plug" can be locked in if required.

Cheers
Tex

No reply from anyone? My question still remains, if they did not install the 12 volt charging port under the dash, would I in fact find any wires for same behind the cover, or would they not have run them?
If not, I understand the supply point is located in the fuses in the drivers side kick panel, correct?
If the supply wires are not there I will take it to an auto sparky to get it installed.

It seems no one with experience in the question has seen this post, yet. Can you remove the trim panel and look behind it, to see if a wire there?

Red face Under dash cover, looking for power cable.

Ok, I'll have a crack at it, it's just that in your middle 70's it's a bit of a bugger crawling around under dashboard.

Got that wiring sorted, phone plugs all neat and tidy and unseen now.
So, the next thing is the non working LED courtesy lamp in the console (under Bluetooth housing), the lamp appears to be ok, no power to the plug, but I can find no mention of a fuse for that item.
Glovebox lamp is not working either.
Any body got any clues as to the location?
