Xenon light problem help

2006 ml500 first problem was ballast once (bulbs changed as well) changed it started working but when you turn off and on driver side delay 10sec and passenger comes on. Driver delay 10 sec and comes on while passenger comes on. At last both side delay and comes on at the same time. I swaped the ballast onto my a8 audi and they work perfely fine. Only code i got was 9020.

9020 Communication fault with component E1m2 (Right dynamic curve illumination motor) or the lead is faulty.

That might be the reason that it works on the BMW but not on yours.

What module did you get these codes from?

Here is a list of the Xenon codes and they do not show your codes.

Exactly what is the wording of both codes, word for word.

9082 a left headlamp component is defective.
9088 a right headlamp component is defective.
that is what confusing I can not seem to find what that code is other than what the scanner is telling me.

You originally said that you "had access" to a scanner, which means that you do not own your own scanner. Get one.

That scanner should do the trick but the codes are still a mystery.

When you replaced the ballast did you remove the front bumper?

You originally had a problem with the right side and now you are getting codes for both sides

originally both lights didn't work, so bought new bulbs still not working. I replaced ballast then they started working. I even swapped out the ballast with different car and they work fine. The first code was for the left motor the plug was loose so now that went away. Only thing i noticed was little corrosion on the module next to the ballast i cleaned it very well. Btw what is that module for? The one next to the ballast? Yes the front bumper is off now. Other than bad bulb, ignitor or ballast i can seem to think what cause the delay. I tried looking for a relay but could not find one.

Your original code was 9020 - 9020 Communication fault with component E2m2 (Right dynamic curve illumination motor). You might have replaced the wrong module or the wiring is damaged.

Did you thoroughly read the first PDF I supplied you with, especially the highlighted areas?

Are you referring to this module?

the 9020 the motor plug was not pluged in, i fixed the wiring problem and pluged it in now it's working no more code. Yes the power module was what i was asking you about what if the module is defective and not supplying power in demand when i turn off and on the light. I will swap them out and see if the problem follows. I did read the first file and i adjusted the headlight with the snapon last week.

Ok I removed both power modules and turned on the light they work like usual so I exchanged both ballast left to right still same issue. Do you know if the xenon system have relay?

I do not believe there are any relays as it works on the CAN system.

I cannot solve your problem.

@Maj. Dundee This is a fantastically helpful thread! I'm troubleshooting some of my own active headlight problems on a 2008 W164. Should I pile on here? Or start a new thread?

TL;DR ... XALWA-R Xenon Headlamp Right: 9023 The sensor for curve illumination is defective or blocked

Pretty sure it has active curve illumination? This is for VIN 4JGBB86E28A361381

The rest of the story...
I was previously receiving the ABS / ESP unavailable / inoperative warnings. Codes indicated a bad steering angle sensor, a bad right rear speed sensor, and a multitude of CAN message failures. Real time data showed valid speed from three of the four wheels but not the right rear. So I replaced the right rear speed sensor, and it was then reporting wheel speed consistent with the others. I reset the ABS / ESP faults and that has been clear. Curiously, the steering angle sensor shows valid data, but the rotational speed entry never goes to zero even when the wheel isn't being turned. But it no longer reports as a steering angle sensor error, so I'm going to disregard. It's been about a week and a couple hundred miles of driving.

Before and after the speed sensor replacement, I was receiving these as well...but they seem to have cleared (except for 9023) and not returned.
XALWA-L Xenon Headlamp Left
9062 No CAN message 'Steering Angle' from control module SCM [MRM] or message is faulty
9065 No CAN message 'Yaw Rate' from control module ESP or message is faulty

XALWA-R Xenon Headlamp Right
9022 Component E2m2 (Right dynamic curve illumination motor) has excess temperature or undervoltage
9023 The sensor for curve illumination is defective or blocked
9062 No CAN message was received from control unit SCM [MRM]
9065 No CAN message was received from control unit ESP

So currently, the only code for a full scan is the right side "9023 The sensor for curve illumination is defective or blocked". I've been using an Innova 5610. Thank you.

hello, waiting for my detailed reply post to be moderator approved. 9023 from right xenon headlamp (the sensor for curve illumination is defective or blocked).

EDIT--it was approved. Apologies for the back-to-back-to-back postings. Didn't mean to spam the board.

I'm looking for information on the sensor location and how to service it. (unblock or replace). I thought I found a video showing it under the front right wheel, but have been coming up empty. Any information on that, part numbers, etc., would be super helpful. Thank you!
