2011 W164 (ML350) Crank but not start

I have 2011 ML350 4Matic gasoline, My VIN: 4JGBB8GB8BA659767

I got a crank but no start about 2 weeks ago. I put a code reader in and got a bunch of codes, and then the car started normally again. I removed a dashcam that I thought was draining the battery.

2 weeks later (no dashcam), the car cranked but again could not start, and then the next afternoon, I put the code reader in again, and the car starts again.

The fault codes:

0521: Diagnosis of tumble flap 'Intake manifold' Short circuit to ground of sensor lines/ Tumble flap shaft stick in the actuated position (P2004) - This was from the engine module - This went away when I started the car and cleared the code

9040: No CAN message was received from control unit Airmatic or ENR - This was from XALWA_L Xenon headlamp left

905D: Component F58kH(circuit 15 relay) is defective or missing, or the feedline has Open circuit - This was from Front SAM - This went away when I started the car and cleared the code

9012: A42b6(right outer sensor, font bumper): the plug connection has poor contact or is loose, or the sensor or cable is faulty - Dont remember which module this came from

988C13: Component M51/1(Rear door hydraulic pump) has a malfunction. There is an open circuit - This was from rear door - This did not go away when I started the car and cleared the code

I'm trying to sort the rear/ trunk door issue via this thread: https://mbworld.org/forums/m-class-w...ml#post8332160

The more important issue for me here is although the car starts now, I'm still not sure if it will start tomorrow or not. If you have any suggestions of where to look next, please let me know.

Thank you very much MBWorld and the wonderful people around here!

The only code that would prevent the car from starting is this one-905D: Component F58kH(circuit 15 relay) is defective or missing, or the feedline has Open circuit .

It is located in the Eng. Compartment fuse box. With the key out of the ign.. remove it and clean all blades with steel wool and reinsert. If that does not do the trick, purchase a new one (part # will be on one side of the relay).

@Maj. Dundee You are a star!!! I changed that relay to a spare one. I tested the old relay, and it didn't click as strong. I have more confidence with the new relay.

@Maj. Dundee The car decided not to start again this morning. It was cranking just fine but no start. In a desparate attempt, an obdii scanner was plugged in, and after 47 modules were scanned, the car started 😳 I'm scratching my head for answer. Please let me know if you know what may be a reason behind this. Thank you!!

Did you delete all of the codes?

Actually, I still have the codes here:

0521: Diagnosis of tumble flap 'Intake manifold' Short circuit to ground of sensor lines/ Tumble flap shaft stick in the actuated position (P2004) - Current and stored (Engine Module)
9040: No CAN message was received from control unit Airmatic or ENR - Current and stored (This was from XALWA_L Xenon headlamp left)
905D: Component F58kH(circuit 15 relay) is defective or missing, or the feedline has Open circuit - Stored (I cant remember if I cleared this from last time or not) - Front SAM - I cleared it this time. We will see if it will come back or not
9012: A42b6(right outer sensor, font bumper): the plug connection has poor contact or is loose, or the sensor or cable is faulty - Stored - Parktronic
988C13:
Component M51/1(Rear door hydraulic pump) has a malfunction. There is an open circuit - Current and Stored - Rear Door

Thank you @Maj. Dundee

Maybe I should get a brand new F58kH relay? I replaced it with a spare one, what is the chance that both of them were bad. So far I noticed that plugging the OBDII scanner in help with starting the car - so strange...

In the last three times the car could not start, right after I plugged the OBDII scanner in and did the scans, the car started normally.

Oh I see what you mean! I'm not sure if I use the right term here, but by plugging I mean I connect the scanner to the car via the OBDII port like one would normally do. I hope I don't confuse you more 😅

Please edit this post and tell me what module each code was stored in and in the future do the same.

I include the module where each code was stored this time (I should have done it this way last time)

0521: Current and stored in "Engine Module" - Diagnosis of tumble flap 'Intake manifold' Short circuit to ground of sensor lines/ Tumble flap shaft stick in the actuated position (P2004)

9040: Current and stored in "XALWA_L Xenon headlamp left Module" - No CAN message was received from control unit Airmatic or ENR

905D: Stored in "Front SAM Module" - Component F58kH(circuit 15 relay) is defective or missing, or the feedline has Open circuit

9012: Stored in "Parktronic Module" - A42b6(right outer sensor, font bumper): the plug connection has poor contact or is loose, or the sensor or cable is faulty

988C13:
Current and Stored in "Rear Door Module" - Component M51/1(Rear door hydraulic pump) has a malfunction. There is an open circuit

I really appreciate your help! Thank you @Maj. Dundee

First replace the KH relay, buy from dealer.

If that does not do the trick, remove the fuse box and check the wiring, especially those wires connected to relay KH.
