Engine Timing .. Need help
“ You must align the cam gears to each other and the machined surfaces of the cylinder head where the cylinder head covers bolt down"
Trying to understand this:
ligning the cams to the machined surface is a must, they will not sit any other way, but with the valve open or close? Should the Intake and the Exhaust cams match, and should the Left and right sides match?

Removed the 4 screw on the bottom of the engine mounts, 2 on each side.
Lifted the engine with my 3 ton jack about 4 or 5 inches, got to the oil pan bolts except the one on the side of the driver side (a pain to take out)
removed the oil pan and then I was able to remove the timing cover. Pried it out carefully.

I wrapped the chain after marking the yellow links and each is in it's position:
The Engine is @ 40 degrees
Crankshaft - square plastic notch
Camshaft - three notches
Intake (Left and Right) Gears - matching the letter R and the letter L
The side notches on the intake gears do not sync with the bottom of the head cover.
I rotated the engine to 305 degrees once, and then up to 6 times and still I can't see the stamps through the sensor opennings on the camshaft front covers.
I am close to lining the timing chain and gears proeprly but not there yet, any thoughts, help?

2. disconnect old chain
3.draw in new chain
4. turn crankshaft to 55 before tdc of first cylinder (305 mark on the bent pulley)
5.turn crankshaft thru 95 degree to 40 degree after ingnition TDC
6. install camshafts right side

paste that in your browser and it is the pdf where I obtained the info

I think I need to see how the camshafts sit on the head, maybe that is my issue of not lining up the gears. A pictuer of which way the camshafts sit on the intake and exhaust sides would make thing clear for me.
After all I am new at this.

Now I am back at it, so I borowed an engine hoist and lifted the engine, Mercedes says you can hoist the engine, I was able to move the Upper Oil Pan freely and I resealed the upper and lower pans while the egnien is lifted.
Here are the sealant track and the bolts location for the Upper Oil Pan, torque is 10nm for all except the two bolts Number 3, they're 20nm and bolts 4 to the bell housing are ( unconfirmed 40nm) If anyone knows please reply.
The lower Oil Pan is 10nm all over just make sure you're using the bolts with the inserts for the bracket that bolts to the lower oil pan.

I checked all coils and sparkplugs and swpped coils and plugs, cleared error codes and nothing.
after spending a couple of hours checkign and looking, I started wathcing Youtube videos and came accross a mechanic in Mexico who was working on a similar issue and what he did was simple, he unplugged the right intake cam sesnor, started the car and the enigne ran smoothley... I did the same and the engine ran just fine.
I ordered a new sensor from Amazon for $20, plugged it in and the engine is running greaat.
I have been at this for more than two months, I am grateful fo rthoes who responded to my questions and helped as mucha as they could.
