Where is the aux battery in my 2010 w164 ML350 RWD

I have searched her it said no thread. I have Googled it and it says 2 locations.
1, In the engine compartment next to the main battery. Nope
2: Next to the main battery under the passenger seat (where my main battery resides), nope, just the main battery

Any other known locations?

You have to pull the main battery out from under the passenger seat to get to it. It’s in that same cubbyhole under the seat.

So, I have to remove the passenger's seat? I had the main battery replaced and they removed the seat for that)

I tried it two different ways. First was just taking out the back two bolts of the seat track and tipping the seat forward. It sucked to get the battery out. Second time I took all 4 seat track bolts out and just lifted and moved the seat forward a foot or so, and that made it much easier to take the main battery out. Once that’s out of the way you can see the auxiliary battery.

Thanks, that makes sense. I am not getting any notice of needing a new aux battery but like to anticipate.

I did buy one from the MB dealer for my 14 E350coupe. Cost me $175.00. I see them now on eBay as OEM, they look the same for like $50.00

If the main battery had a handle, it would be easy to lift, even without removing the seat..

Put a three foot nylon strap under the main battery, with the ends left above. Then, to remove the battery just pull up on the strap ends.

Yeah it did have a handle but you’re still lugging out a 60 pound battery without getting a good angle on it because the seat being there gets in the way. It was cake with the seat moved forward a foot or so. It’s just 2 more bolts at the front of the track so it’s a no brainer to do it that way.

When the weather cools (Fl now is a tad warm) I will unbolt all 4 on the seat and do that as a test so when it is needed I will know how

For what it's worth, I've pulled the main battery five or six times without unbolting anything. Use the strap to lift the rear end, and then the battery just slides out to the rear.

None of the four batteries had a handle, at least as far as I can recall.

Never having unbolted the seat, I don't know if that is easier. I'm just saying what has worked for me.

Maybe because I’ve got an ML63 the seats are different but there’s no way I could get the battery out with at least the rear seat track bolts out so I can tip the seat. Or maybe you’re just a better mechanic than me. Or both lmao!

Conversely, my experience is with the GL; I am assuming the interiors are essentially the same. For all I know, the battery removal is tighter in the ML and my advice is bogus for that platform.

It is definitely not mechanical aptitude nor strength; I am terribly slow and my days of flexing manly muscles are long since past.

No difference on the ML, equally as miserable. I scoot the seat forward and up as much as possible and use a pry bar on the little "ledge" that goes around the perimeter of the battery to get the back end up high enough to get a hand under, lift and them slide the battery out. Never fun or easy and often takes multiple attempts to get it high enough to remove. Taking the seat out might be easier.

I just pulled H8 battery from my ML, to get to aux battery on side of it.
In my case, the floor flange is smaller, than battery bottom flange and I had to use screwdrivers to bend it a bit and make battery come out.
My battery has 2 small handles, so I used 1/2" pipe (good to have junk laying around) who I slide under the handles, lay front end on seat cross member and lifted the battery by rear pipe end.
At this moment I run out of hands as I needed 2 to operate screwdrivers, so I found matching block, that I put under rear of the pipe to hold the battery lifted and at this point I lifted the battery with screwdrivers pushed under it.
I have arthritism in both arms, so if I can do it, so can you.
I am thinking about adding nylons strap around the battery for extra lifting option.
