Extended Warranty

I am thinking about an extended warranty (yes, I know Mercedes calls it an Extended Service Contract). My selling dealer is offering it for my 2012 Bluetec. The 4 year/100,000 mile is $2750 and the 5 year/125,000 mile is $3700. Do these prices seem to be in line?

Yes but the first option extends the mileage to 100,000 within that 4 year period.

Yeah, but if you drive you don't get a free grope from your friendly TSA. No happy ending for you.

Purchasable warranties are statistically almost always a bad deal. They're betting that they'll pay out less to repair your vehicle (based on their analysis of your vehicle's expected repairs) than you pay them for the warranty.

I have heard the same, from the above poster.

So, even knowing that what I did is purchased the extended warrenty and will keep until I figure out if the build quality and durability of my particular build is what is expected. Come between 40 - 49,000 miles and my car has been doing fine, I will cancel my service extention.

You can cancel and get a refund anytime before 50,000 miles.

I'm going to do it the other way. I will decide if I need it based on what happens during the warranty period. I will also keep an eye out for a sale on the warranty during that time.
