Random Stalling in 2012 ML

Transmission oil pump and a/c compressor need to keep turning. They're electric driven on Eco engines.

I just realized that the transmission stayed in D. Thanks trident9440 for posting your experience because we now know that this is not isolated to Keyless drivers.
I will add:
The stall occurred after driving for almost an hour from highway driving to slight aggressive NYC driving (taxi style driving...switching lanes, etc). As soon as I a made a complete stop at a light the truck stalled.

Another stall in mine last night. Came off the freeway, up the exit ramp to a stop. STALL. Took three attempts to get it to start again. Drivers behind me were extremely unhappy.
None of mine have involved paddle shifters and four have not involved any turning between freeway exit and stall. Three have involved turns.
I believe every one was the first time I came to a complete stop after exiting the freeway, though the first might have included one successful stop & go before the stall.
Fuel pump makes sense. What really scares me is if it happened from some sudden change in speed on a highway like quickly braking instead of only happening at a complete stop which could still be dangerous but much less than on a highway.

To those with STALLING issues: can you please tell me what state you are from? I have noticed when I do a search on mbworld for threads with stalling issues, I have mainly noticed two things:
1. Most of the issues are from NJ or NY
2. Most involve exiting the freeway and going through a turn.
This is not just on the W166. There are other chassis's with the same issue from the NJ, NY area.
I am mainly interested to see where this is happening because I find it strange that it is happening on the east coast. Maybe it truly is a gas issue?
When I can get a hold of my MB Master Tech friend at the dealer, I am gonna pick his brain to see what he knows. Probably Friday when I go pick up some parts.
Anyway I hope you all get this figured out!

It's the fuel pumps. I already started a topic for this. If its occurring on your vehicle and there are no fault codes you have a faulty high pressure fuel pump. And Yes, all my friends at other dealerships are only seeing this issue in NY area.

stalling at stops
I have a 6 months old 2012 ML350 with about 4k miles and have experienced 2 stalls.
1. Both happened after getting off the freeway and coming to a stop at a signal at the exit.
2. I am in Southern California. Weather was perfect S Calif weather in both cases (no rain, cold, etc).
3. I don't have keyless entry.
4. I switched from Mobil premium to Shell premium after the first stall as the dealer mentioned that bad gas was a probablity. I have used both stations for my Lexus fillups for the past 7 years and not had any problems.
5. The dealer had my car for a day after the first stall but did not find anything.
6. In the first case, the car shuddered before stalling. I don't remember a shudder before the 2nd stall.
7. On a few additional occasions, I have felt the car shudder, but it didn't stall.
The above is quite similar to what everyone else has experienced. The only thing I would like to add is that I was on an upslope in both cases.
Wish I had stayed with Lexus.

So does Mercedes now use a different high pressure pump to replace the "new" one that was installed at the factory?
Can anyone post a part number for the "new newer" pump?

Guys, please keep us posted if you find out a fix.

The high pressure pump was replaced. Enginee stalled again 3 days after get the car back. So the high pressure pump did not fix the problem. Btw, how to check the build date of the car?

Got our new ML350 last week, gas version w/ P2. We were excited to drive around for no more than 200 miles in less than a week, and guess what? The car shook and stalled at a traffic light during a local trip. Now the car is in the shop. Dealer unable to determine the cause from the diagnostic code and waiting for the advice from Mercedes' headquarter on what needs to do next... Just like the very first post of this thread, service advisor says it might be "bad gas" and I told him that I was still driving from the same gas that the dealer filled up with. Anyway, hope this would resolve soon b/c I have not had a car stalled on me for a long time, from Toyota Corolla to Honda Accord, but yet my brand new Mercedes already in the shop within the first week... Will post update when hearing back from dealer.

K.I.S.S is the philosophy of the Japanese automakers. Not found in Germany.
Its the sheer complexity of these vehicles.
I'm assuming the German test team did over 1,000,000 cumulative miles with these vehicles before signing on the dotted line to start production? Why didn't they pick these issues up?
Manufacturing issue?

I remember the days (1970s) when MB advertise their cars as "engineered like no other car!"
Guess they have not changed!

Defective Speed Sensors
have 2010 ML350 4MATIC - stalled about six months ago with an ABS warning. took it in and they diagnosed it as a faulty speed sensor. happened again a few days ago. took it in and was diagnosed with a SECOND faulty speed sensor. the thing just died in the middle of traffic - twice! no turns, not sudden maneuvers or changes - just flat 30+ mph driving. scary to think that it could just shut down so randomly like that. so there are FOUR total, but they won't replace the other two proactively. now I must wait for them to fail before getting them replaced - the fact that the service center had them in stock should send a clear message re how systemic the issue may be... hope that helps some of you. not sure if its the same issue...

okay, picked the suv up today. local dealer said that the suv was indeed having a faulty high pressure fuel pump and replaced, as someone had mentioned at the beginning of this thread. local dealer was unable to extract anything wrong from the diagnostic code, and this is the advice that mercedes headquarter recommended. anyway, i hope this would resolve the stalling issue.

What's weird about this stalling is that the same engine is in the E350 and there is no mention of a problem anywhere on their forum. It has to be something that is different on the ML.
