At this point, are you surprised? I'm not.

Interesting that this option [package] will not be offered for 2013 models.

Yes. That could mean several things. Airmatic will probably be a standalone option like it was in the past. Maybe the Active Curve System will also be standalone, or maybe they'll drop it (doubtful). My guess is the high price of the package is a deterrent to selling it and breaking it apart will make the individual options more palatable. YYZ, any insight?

Now I'm faced with sticking with my '12 order scheduled for 6/5 production, or facing the uncertainty of what configurations and when '13s will be available. Hopefully, further info will be forthcoming in the next month.

Maybe then we could get the 20" wheels without ordering a $5k+ package

With a 6/5 production date, I'd just wait for the 13's - if you can wait that is. Hoping all the kinks would be worked out by then.

The supplier capacity is very low for the active curve system. ML 63 is eating them up!! We couldn't even offer it on the ML 550 for Canada (was planned as an optional package) due to lack of availability.

YYZ-E55: What will happen now to the Canadian "Sport Package" which includes the Active Curve System.

Same could be said for Airmatic.

On the 550, the sport package is now just 21" wheels with high-performance tires since AIRMATIC is standard.

We are referring to the 550, which was originally planned to get an optional Sport Package with 21" wheels and the ACTIVE CURVE system.

Currently, my order is scheduled for last decade of May, exactly the way I want it - which is without the handling package. If I knew for certain that MY '13 would have Airmatic as a stand alone option, AND, that I could still get my stitched dash, Pano roof, etc. etc. I would wait. BUT, I have no confidence that MY '13 will be any better than MY '12 in terms of option availability. So it seems to be a bit of a roll of the dice!

Will MBUSA not allow you to do a stand-alone order of AIRMATIC (without ACTIVE CURVE)? Has anyone tried? There's no factory restriction that requires them in tandem...

The codes you want are 214 (Adaptive Damping System) and 489 (AIRMATIC).

Wait for MY 13?

My hope is that MY 13 info on NA availability and prices/changes/options will be available by late April before my early June order is "locked". I think there it's almost certain Airmatic will be available on its own or in some package - that's an MB signature feature. If demand is still high you can bet the prices are going up!

Anyone, typically how long before the production date is the order unchangeable?

It depends what you're trying to change and what the current supply for that options is. Your dealer should be able to tell you when the order will go into "locked" status. I believe Alabama is a bit more flexible than the German plants in this regard.

I'm not sure if I tried that, but I know I tried to unbundle some option and the computer system won't take it.

Thanks for the info YYZ. Immediately called my dealer and had them try to apply 489 to my order. Couldn't add 489 outside of the US Handling package - oh well, it was worth a try. There are some days I've considered moving back to Toronto - usually when I look at M-B Canada configurations and option availability! LOL

DHP is no longer an option on MB USA. Maybe they will add the options as stand alone down the line.
