What does this translate to in US metrics?

Did the number get better or worse?

Seem about what the power chip guys are talking about in that thread for increases.
My 2013 BT is held for engine certification and modification so would seem about right.
The old 2011 MLs were beating the hyway rating of 35 mpg Can and 2012 was rated or 39 hyway Can.
They also spec on the website 7 Gtronic Plus where last year didnt say Plus but was supposed to be.

Anybodies guess these days LOL

Interesting.37mpg for the M might, one would think, translate out to 40 or more for the E.And yes,I know...my math might be off.

At last January's Detroit auto show Mercedes displayed an E Class diesel hybrid that had "4.2L/100km" plastered all over it.I was told that this vehicle *was* going to be sold in Europe some time this year.If that car could get 55mpg then it seems to me that 37mpg for an M could be possible.

The Canadian figures cannot be converted to US directly as they have different testing methods. The Canadian numbers are usually much more optimistic than the US ones.

Optimistic really? Dont think so anymore.
I do know a few that got 35+ to the Can Gal in their 2010/11s
I expected the 2012s to be better and seems MB not resting with the 2013s

Perhaps this is all part of what they gained from the cold studder problems?

Just a messenger for the nice folks that come here to play :o)

2012 ML 350 Bluetec
I think the Canadian mileage estimates are closer to what I am getting with my 2012 Bluetec. I never get less than 25 city and often 27. I get more than 40 on the highway at 65MPG with A/C on. I think the EPA Estimates are way too low. Are they anti-diesel?

First post I've seen claiming 40 mpg highway for the bluetec. Most seem to report highway in the high 20's or 30. truedelta.com posts owners mileage. They show just under 30 overall, with the highest individual getting 33mpg.

I will have to take a picture. But yes if i drive at 65 steady on a flat highway i get 40mpg. My real question is why the EPA estimates are so much lower than most driver reported mpg experiences.

EPA estimates simulate more than just driving at a single constant speed. This website explains the testing methodology in more detail

Think because 2013 diesel not certified yet Sept I think. One of the listings under specs has old 2012 price with the 240 hp so let see what happens with certification. They also added eco stop/start thing too that will raise city mileage

Ok - can't recreate 40... but damn close. I wonder if fuel quality is a factor. Regardless, driving this big luxury car and getting better mileage than those econo boxes satisfies me.

I see on MB's UK site it is 258HP for ML just like the S350BT
The Stop/Start will give huge gains in city. 99L(25gal) per100k(62mi) at idle :o)

please get this kind of milage over a longer run for real milage reading.
driving for 26 or 29 miles is no where near an accurate fuel consumption.
drive for a few hundred miles then we can talk serious.also route should be driven both ways to take in consideration wind and hills.

Looking at the pictures, I guess the vehicle is a MY2012? There are improvements for the MY2013 that should easily improve on the MPG figures of the MY12

I don't see how distance or time is a material variable if all other factors are consistent such as level road, wind, speed. I was driving on the Atlantic City expressway into Philadelphia and anyone familiar with this part of the country knows it's flat as a lake bed, which of course it was a few million years ago. There was no wind that morning and 30 miles of consistent speed and other variables is good enough for me to determine my highway MPG. I would love to know how the auto start stop feature improves city MPG.
