Sales rep told me I could not cancel ML order..
I ordered a 2013 ML350 diesel back in early June 2012 and since of the push back on the diesels, I called to cancel my order and my sales rep told me I couldn't. This seems to be a bold lie. Sure I may be liable for the deposit, but that's it. Has anyone ever been told this?

No. It may vary by dealer, but on my order sheet it says my deposit is 100% refundable.

I agree, I was told there is no way to cancel the order, I told him the car hasn't even begun to be made yet, I am just a number waiting in que to be built, so to be told the order can not be canceled was pretty comical. I think I be dealing elsewhere.

As long as I know, there is no way to cancel the order but they can edit/change the order depends on the date (if too late then no way). In my case, I ordered 2013 ML but they even did not get the deposit from me because it's 100% refunable anyway. Talk to manager first. If there is no official documents that your deposit is NOT refundable then You can even call the credit card compnay (if you paid it using credit card) and tell them to get the money back from the dealer. Best!

deposit
My dealer said they absolutely cannot keep a deposit, even if they had written on the paperwork (no paperwork in your case), deposit is not refundable.
He said it would be a total loser for them to try to keep a deposit.
Sounds like you also have the option for the credit card company to step in if
dealer doesn't refund it.
good luck

2013 ML BLUETEC JULY 31
That guy would be FIRED if Benz knew that.
Tel Manager
USA Blue tec were not pushed back.
From day one the US would not get Diesels built till OCT because they get the 2 wheel drive option this year. I may be wrong but I believe it is a USA only option.
I would raise the roof with that dealer General Manager not just sales manager.
There is only a moral obligation you had no pricing or option list when you likely made the deposit. I think you said you did not sign anything.
Your order may be "frozen" and not able to be cancelled but Im sure they would find a buyer.

This happened to me back when the first retro Mustang was about to come out. I ordered a white one with red interior. I eventually went with a different car. When I called the salesman to cancel the order, they said that they had to keep my $500 deposit. I just called my Amex to cancel the charge and also contacted BBB to let them know what happened. 2 days later, I got a call from the salesman, general manager and the dealership owner telling me how sorry they were. ML 350 Bluetech 2013 Loving it!
Things may be different in different countries. I have ordered in UK. No deposit has been taken.Just a commitment on a piece of paper( a fax ) I sent saying I agree to the price and specs.
I have no plans to back off as I am so desperately waiting and looking forward to the car. I was a bit surprised at our local dealer as he was not at all interested in my business and had a take it or leave it approach . I went to a broker and booked it via a broker
http://www.bestmercdeals.co.uk/ ( David Burnett)
who was very helpful getting me a great discount and great reassuring service.
I was surprised at that the Mercedes dealers attitude, as it appears ,they are so confident of getting their business ,because their cars are so good , but i feel Mercedes should improve their customer services . I wonder if they are even bothered to monitor these forums at mbworld and take any notice.
